My parents named me MauriceIn a way it’s never given me peaceHow could these Russian- born twoCould know what confusionwound insueThe tale of my name’s not earth shaking But it has been an annoying awakeningI never asked why -I can only guessThey must have been under stressIt started with confusionThe clerk’s stupid illusionWhen getting my card for Social SecurityDid see show a lack of maturityInstead of Maurice sheShe changed just a peiceAnd I became MorrisWhen my card cameI looked at the name - to much troubleto changeAt 16 too lazy to rearrangeWhen Uncle Sam calledMy name was the sameThe army didn’t careI thought what’s in a name?I did my two years and when l got outI said to myself“Should have done the turnabout “All my military historyCreated a paper work mysteryWith discharge and VA papersto be filed both offices were riledMaurice was on my birth certificateConfusion reigned supremeWhen given the explanationYou should have heard them screamI thought it was finally settledThen Medicare stepped inTheir records has two first namesThey did didn’t know where to beginThe problem was eventually solvedAll records read MauriceHad I gotten this at first resolvedI conld have lived in peaceOne prologue to this ventureIf this is not enoughTo friends and family I’m MoeThis name game sure been rough
