We are so often engrossed in ourselvesThat we fail to see and appreciate the positives in othersWell- I would argue it’s our livesIt’s what we’re going throughI have to exert enough energyjudt to deal with thatTrue I would argue but wouldn’tIt be helpful to you as well as theOther one(s) in your relationshipsIf you felt they truly understood youAnd you them?True I would argue but I’m so intentOn getting my point across that sometime I don’t have the time or patience to deal with themTrue I would argue but if you valued thatRelationship for you or a significant otherWouldn’t it be better to listen and understand their view and hope thatThey would do the same?True I would argue but at times they don’t know how to listenTrue would argue -do you?Hmmm-you know sometimes I’m so worked up over an issue I can’t wait to make my pointIsn’t that something that happens to the other person as well?True but how does one resolve this?Let’s try this-Respect, Concern,Desire to maintain the relationship-are theseImportant elements?Yes but——-If they are wouldn’t it be vital that the concerned parties understood thisWhich in basically understandingLISTENING?We all listen in conversationsdon’t we?You know better if you’ve listened tofolks discuss controversial issuesIt all comes down to listeningThere are basically two kinds of listeningWaiting (sometimes ) for the other person to finish so you can respondOrLook directly at that person and try to put yourself in their place to see what they’re going throughThat’s not easyBut isn’t it worth trying in order to save or enrich the relationship ?But what if it doesn’t work?I leave that answer up to youWould you want to at least come awayWith the knowledge that you tried to do the right thing or just say“The hell with it (you)”?Well it looks like relationships can be hard work just like listeningYou’re right so what do I do?I, would look in the mirrorand search my soulWhat would you do?
