Kennedy, how could you! Don't just keep walking, answer me!" Lucy screamed, stopping in her tracks once they were far enough away from the wreckage.

"I did what I had to do, Luce. Quit talking about it already." Kennedy's voice was flat and uncaring, almost forcibly so, a precarious sort of apathy.

"What about that was necessary? NOTHING about that was necessary!"

"It was if we wanted to live. Just drop it okay?"

"Had you considered that maybe I didn't?" Lucy sounded as though she was on the brink of tears.

"Didn't what?"

"Didn't want to live?"

"I never took you for the suicidal type."

"There's a difference between suicide and sacrifice! We made a promise, Ken. YOU made a promise to ME! I thought this was important to you!"

That's when Kennedy snapped. "Yeah well maybe you were more important!" She yelled, tears stinging her eyes, betraying her feelings. "Have you thought of that?! Have you ever thought that MAYBE someone ACTUALLY cares about you? How could I let you die?" Tears were spilling down Kennedy's cheeks.

Lucy was taken aback, but her point held. Her voice was less shrill now, softer, but still angry. "We both knew the risks when we started doing this. I was always ready to die for this cause, you were just being selfish!" The word hung in the air like a weight ready to drop. "People are dead because of what you did! People with lives, with families, livelihoods that they never agreed to leave behind - they're gone because of you!"

"I panicked okay?! All I could think about was you!" Kennedy's voice softened as she reached for Lucy's hand. "As long as I have you -"

"Well you don't," Lucy said coldly, pulling away from Kennedy's grasp. "Not anymore." She began walking again, and the two continued in dead silence on their journey back to the base
