Senate Republicans, led by Mitch McConnell, R-KY, refuse to permit Democrats any participation, any input into the reformation of our nation's healthcare plan. They work within a Republicans only committee to iron out the new parameters. It is clear their goal is to strangle the Affordable Care Act, aka Obama Care, by non-funding and removing its mandates. Then they can claim Obama Care failed. Obama Care certainly has its issues. It was a bi-partisan "rube goldberg" solution without either side getting what they really wanted as the ultimate product. But it was designed to be modified as needed so it could hopefully remain effective. Not happening now. It looks like we are heading back to the free market, free will concept for health insurance, with profit for the insurance companies as the driving force. I guess the record setting PROFITS the ten largest health insurance companies made in 2015 of over $15 Billion is not cutting it. Afterall, United Health Care CEO Stephen Hemsley only "earned" $20 million in 2015, falling from $66 million in 2014. Aetna's CEO had to get by on just $27.9 million in 2015. Maybe we should start a Go Fund Me Campaign for these guys? All that money preceeds all the millions they pour into lobbying and campaign financing to "buy" their congressional support. Get government out of healthcare? Let's try getting big business out of healthcare. I believe that the people of our country should have the right to affordable healthcare. This can best be achieved via the single payer model. Medicare for all. There should be no profit motive or incentive to healthcare. Every dollar should go into supporting the system and providers themselves. We certainly don't need multiple CEOs pulling down obscene salaries and fat cat investors getting richer on health insurance stocks. Getting treatment for cancer is not a free market choice. You get it or likely die. Nothing like a decision between purchasing a VW or a Mercedes. No American should lose their life savings because they get sick, no?
