I was walking through the woods, during nightfall. The sound of crickets chirping and leaves crunching as I walked, filled my ears. The stars glistened in the dark night sky and the moon illuminated the pathway I was strolling on. I kept walking until I heard a faint, soft voice, barely above a whisper.

“Hel….help m..me, pl..please. Anyone?” The voice was quiet and shaky. I decided to follow it into the woods and it lead me to a small cave. The entrance way of the cave, was covered with vines. I pushed the thick layer of vines aside and continued to walk towards the voice. The inside was dark except for a couple of torches hanging on the walls. I grabbed one as I walked deeper into the cave. The cave smelled of smoke and oddly enough, blood.

“Hello? Is anyone there?” I asked.

“In..he...here.” There it was again. I followed the sound of faint, uneven breathing and I came across three tunnels.

“Which way do I go?” I questioned.

“Th..the third o..one.” replied the stranger. I began to walk through the third tunnel and as I did, my path became brighter because of the many torches hanging on the cave walls. When I reached the end of the tunnel, I came upon a dim room. There were animal skin rugs and tree stump tables. Glass bottles filled with unidentifiable liquids and objects, were placed on wooden shelves, aligning the walls, along with leather back books.

       “Where are you?” I asked.

“In..the oth..other roo..room.” The voice was a little louder, considering I was closer to it, although it was still shaky and soft. When I turned around the corner to the other room, I saw who the voice belonged to. It was a little girl around the age of ten and she was trapped in a small cage, similar to a jail cell. The cage was locked with one ginormous lock. Her face was covered in blood and soot. Scars, bruises, and cuts decorated her thin body. Her clothes were dirty and her hair was tangled. It was as if she had been there for years, miserable, and waiting for someone to rescue her.

“Hey, it’s okay I’m here. What’s your name?” I asked as I ran over to her.

“My na..name..i..is Hewa Ekahi.” she replied.

“Hi Hewa Ekahi, you have a really pretty name. my name is Robin.”

       “Tha..thank you, Robin?” she asked.

“Yea, Robin. No do you mind telling me how you got here and how long you’ve been here.”

“The witch too..took me he..here th..three years ago.”

      “The witch? What witch?”

      “The witch o..of th..the Hartlock for..forest. I wa..was jus..just walk..walking one night an..and she too..took me.”

     “Do you know why?”

     “No.”

“Well i’m going to get you out if it’s the last thing I do.”

“Thank yo..you.” Hewa Ekahi replied. I began searching for a key to fit the lock. There were sixteen different keys of all shapes and sizes, lying on the table. I began to try all of the keys.

       “Hurry..ple..please. She’ll be he..here any min...minute.”

“I’ve got it.” I yelled as I unlocked the cell and she ran out. We were facing each other so I had a chance to see her face clearly. She had a look of worry spread across her face and tears forming in her eyes.

“Why are you crying? We did it, let’s go before she comes.” I said as I grabbed her wrist, trying to lead her out of the cage. But she just released herself from my firm grip and put her hands behind her back.

“We’re too late.” she replied emotionlessly.

“What do you mean? Where is she? I don’t see her?” I asked frantically, but for some reason she had calmed down and a smirk was plastered on her pale face.

“Oh but my dear, I’m right in front of you.”
