Leaving the gloom and glitter of theHilton TowersI remove my name tag and am a“civilian “for just awhileI walk two blocks and step into life unbridled“Shoot The Ball-National Three ManBasketball Tourney” reads the signThe vibrance, the smell, the grunts Ofbody contact,that metallic-rubber soundheard only in playgrounds-I am immersed in them all, where life flows free and the heaviest thought is the fearOf loosing a”close one”My transformation from two thousandgrieving parents to a thousand basketball-minded young men andwomen is surrealI have walked two city blocks and entered another worldOne that I knew intimately but am nolonger a part ofI am merely a visitor passing throughrelishing each sight and sound and smellThen it is time to returns to my truthI have basked in they Chicago sun andIn the experienceAs I step back onto the red plushcarpet and pin my reality onI am back in my two worldsAnd in both places my lovely sonYou are with me
