A blank sheet of paper stares back at me. As per usual lately.

Woah there! You’ve got yourself your first sentence. Congratulations!
Now you can stop nagging yourself to find a bit of inspiration.

So what’s next? Let me guess. You’re going to say that you don’t like the idea of this poem and you’ll decide to start all over again? 

You know what, Rose? For someone who says they don’t care about being perfect, you sure do seem to be a bit of a perfectionist. 

Like are you kidding me?
If you were to use all of the stanzas on these sheets of paper that you decided to trash, you’d create a masterpiece. 

See, that’s your problem, Rose. You don’t have enough confidence in yourself to believe that you can create poems and stories of pure gold. 

It’s like you know you can do it, but you don’t know exactly where to start. Well, I’ll tell you the truth. You’ve gotta start where you are with what you have or you won’t get very far. 

You’ve got the dream, Rose. And you’ve got the support. There are no shooting stars or four-leaf clovers that you should be waiting for. 

You can keep your faith. You can get on your knees and pray, but you also need to be strong, believe in yourself and pull your own weight. 

You say you want to give your family a better life. A life that doesn’t involve them struggling to pay bills for the rest of their lives like everyone else until the day we eventually die. You can make that happen, Rose. But not by doubting your ability to make your dreams come true, being fearful of taking risks and crying about it all at night. 

Don’t drop your pen, Rose. Make this writing dream of yours into a reality. You’ve always said, ‘’before my flower can begin to blossom, I must start by planting and watering the seed.’’ 

So start by taking those verses out of the trash. Use them when you write and discover the potential to soon become a masterpiece that they all have.
