Ooh this is fun a great road trip story. I have a ton of those but one in particular stands out from the rest. You see this road trip was certainly interesting to say the least.

My parents absolutely adore fishing and when given the chance they decided to drive all the way to Erie to fish.

Well from Erie we were about two hours from Niagara Falls at most. We had our tent and sleeping bags in our van already in case we stayed in Erie. It was summer so we had no school and only one parent worked.

So we took a completely random trip to Niagara Falls just because we were close by.

My little siblings were asleep pretty quickly after playing so hard in the grass at Erie. My parents were talking about random things that they may have seen.
My sister was on her phone and or sleeping as well. I was in the very back of the van reading my Nancy Drew books which I loved so very much.

We’re on a road trip so who doesn’t go and do a little sightseeing. We stopped at a few places to look around nothing of great interest though.

My family rocked out to some great music and talked about completely random things.

I read my books while subconsiously humming along with the song on the radio.

It started to get late though and we realized we were all hungry. My parents said there was a rest stop that had food in it. It was still an hour to half an hour away though so I took a nap.

When we arrived at the rest stop it was about 12:20 in the morning. I was ridiculously tired and was barely even registering what was going on. I didn’t even feel hungry anymore I just wanted to sleep. Not to mention that after we entered the building the lights were like strobe lights. They blindes me completly rendering my eyesight useless for a few minutes. I genuinely felt like a walking zombie at this point of the night. Not to mention the entire place was off to me. I didn’t feel right while we were in the building. I felt uneasy, anxious, nervous, and scared while in the building.

To say that was weird was an understatement. When we pulled out I looked out the back mirror and stared at the building. Not stopping until I could no longer see it. A fact which creeps me out to this day.

Anyway it’s a little over 1 am when we get to our campground. We’re all half awake and just want somewhere to sleep. My Mom took us to the bathroom to brush teeth and change while my Dad got the tent set up.

It was set up when we got back and we all climbed in. We got to our reserved sleeping bags and laid down.

Not more than two seconds later we hear barking and howling. We all go silent for two minutes until my Mom tells my Dad “please tell me that was a neighborhood dog.”

Everyone knew it wasn’t when my Dad was instantly silent. He wouldn’t say a single thing to anyone. You could hear a pin drop with how silent it was.

In the softest whisper my Dad could manage he said “ No, they’re coyotes.”
Despite being half awake and having my back hurt from the use of no mattresses. My eyes shot open like a rocket. I felt my heart start racing and I felt terrified. Yeah I was tired but that was before I thought I was in danger.

I wasn’t sure I was going to get any sleep after hearing that. Until my parents said it was fine. They’re most likely in camp looking for food. All of our foods in the car so we have no need to worry.

The next day we had Denny’s for breakfast then went to see the falls, and they’re absolutely gorgeous.

To this day though it’s still the weirdest road trip my family has ever had.
