Guns go off bullets go flying through the air. The sound of screams get drowned out by the sound of gunfire. As people run in every direction trying to escape from the gunfire. As I ran down about two to three blocks away it got very silent you could hear the gunfire in the distance. That moment I felt like something was wrong I then saw a soldier dragging himself across the street. Then I noticed that he was not alone. I saw another soldier coming towards him my first instinct was to hide so I did. As I watched the two soldiers I noticed one of them was wearing a US flag on his upper arm and the other was what looked like a German flag on his arm too. As I watched the German soldier walk closer and closer to the US soldier the German soldier started to chuckle. As he stood over the US soldier, the soldier turned around as he put up his hands saying, "please, do-" his last word was cut off with a a gunshot to his head. My first instinct was to run away in the opposite direction of the gunshot. As I ran the German soldier saw me on the corner of his eye and turned towards me and started to shoot his gun in my direction. Bullets ripped past me barley missing me. Then the next thing I knew it a bullet ripped right into my right leg. When I fell I wanted to scream for help but instead I just played dead. Hoping to fool the soldier into thinking he killed me. As I layed there playing dead. He started to walk towards me as the footsteps got louder and louder out of know where I heard him starting to walk away as he thought he had killed me. As the footsteps disappeared into the distance I looked to make sure he was gone. I started to drag myself over the dead bodies as I kept dragging myself I felt like my leg was going numb. As I dragged myself I had dragged myself about a block and a half until I came across some rubble which used to be a house I found a scarf in that pile of rubble. So I tried to shack off as much dust I could then I wrapped it around my leg were I was shot at. It hurt tieing it around but I knew it would help slow down the bleeding and to protect it from any further damage. After a while of dragging myself I had enough courage to get up and try to walk. As I was limping while I walked I found somewhere to hide. I sat in a corner of what was left as two walls. Both walls were brick walls. I pushed a chair into the corner and hide behind the chair I started to sob scared that I would die. After sitting in that corner behind that chair I got up to go look for some food. But my luck was running out I could not find any food around the falling apart house so I decided that I had to leave to find some food. As I walked down a road I stopped next to a wall I heard some noise that I had never heard before. The next thing I know it a explosion struck the wall as I flew through the air I landed on a pile of rubble the wall that was next to the rubble came crashing down on me knocking me out cold. When I woke up I was half way under the rubble. As I started to try to free myself I started to hear voice in the distance. As the voices got louder and louder I knew they were Americans. As I started to scream for help, "Help me! Please!" A solider stopped and said "Did you hear that?" Another said "hear what?" "Shhh, listen." I screamed again as loud as I could "Help me! Please somebody!" "Hey it sounds like a girl! Come on!" As they got closer and closer they saw me half way under the rubble. "I'm here! Please help me!" "Over here guys! It's a child!" As the other soldiers came running over to help the other to get me out I started to cry I couldn't hold back my tears. "It's okay we got you. Don't worry." When I was finally freed from out of the rubble one of them picked me up and I just held onto him not wanting to let go. As he carried me he asked, "Are you okay? It's okay your safe now." I just kept crying thanking them for saving me. "Are you hurt?" Before I could answer his question another soldier noticed the scarf around my leg and he said, "Hey I think she is bleeding." "Oh my god!" Another one said as they removed the scarf off of my leg. "She is shot!" "We have to get her to safety! We need to get her leg checked out, right now." "Can you walk?" said the soldier that was holding me. "I can try." When he set me down I tried to take one step but I could not stay up. I fell down and started to cry again. "Okay. It's going to be okay, I promise you." As I sniffled I said, "okay." So the man picked me up again and started to carry me. After about five blocks he told another soldier, "Call for help. Tell them we have a child with a bullet stuck in her leg. Tell them to send for help." "Yes sir."

As we sat there waiting for a truck to come pick me up. I started to cry again.  "What's wrong?" One of them asked. "My leg is hurting really bad." "Don't worry they're coming." Just as he said this the truck pulled up then two more soldiers jumped out of the truck and ran over to where I was and put me on a stretcher and carried me to the truck. I started to scream saying, "I want him to come. Please!"  They turned to look at who I was pointing to then the two soldiers said "Jacob, she wants you to come with her. Is this okay with you?" He then said, "yes I'll come. You boys go look for more survivors, okay?" "Yes sir." They said and started to walk away. He then came into the back of the truck where they had put me down. He then sat next to me and held my hand. "Thank you for saving me."I said. "Don't worry this is what we do." He then smiled at me.  As we where in the back he kept holding my hand until we got to where we were going. When they stopped the truck more soldiers came running towards the back of the truck Jacob then said, "Okay we're here. Don't worry they will take good care of you." "Wait you're not staying with me?" "I'm sorry, but I have to go back to help the others. Okay? When I'm back I'll come check up on you." "Thank you." "Don't keep thanking me you are the bravest little girl I have ever met." He smiled as he said this to me. "Okay, here we go." Some soldiers came into the back to help lift me out and as they were carrying me I passed out. "Shit she is going into a shock!" "We need a medic over here right now! We have a child going into shock!" They then rushed me into a medical tent and by that point I was barely breathing. I started to have a seizure. As they held me down a medic came running into the tent and started to give me C. P. R. "Shit! We need more help in here!" After a while of C. P. R. my body relaxed and I started to breath normally again. Just for them to make sure I would not have a seizure again a soldier stayed in the tent with me. After about 6 hours later I started to wake up. As I woke up I started to cry. "Hey! She's waking up!" The soldier yelled out. Then multiple medics and soldiers came into the tent and checked my pulse. To make sure I was having a good pulse. "Okay, she's good. Can you tell me your name?" I then mumbled, "Sarah Hearting" "Okay. How do are you Sarah?" "I'm twelve." "Good. Okay. " "Did you get the bullet out?" I asked. "Not yet we were more worried about you going into shock again. But we are working on getting you to a safer location so they can get that bullet out of your leg. Okay?" "Okay" I said. After about I believe was three more hours they put me back on a stretcher and carried me to a ambulance. When I got to the hospital they put me to sleep to remove the bullet. After the X-ray they took me into surgery to remove the bullet. Luckily it didn't do any damage. It missed all my vains, my bone, and left a little dent in my muscles. But other than that I was perfectly fine. After surgery I woke up and saw that I had stitches where the bullet had entered. The doctor told me that I would be fine in about 2 days I would be able to walk normally again. I was glad to hear the good news. I then asked, "where is Jacob?" They then told me, "He is outside of your room waiting to see you." "Can you bring him in now? Please!" "Of course. Excuse me Mr. Jacob, she would like to see you now."  Good. Thank you doc." He then entered my room bringing in some flowers. "Here I got these for you." "Thank you." I said to him. I then sat up in my bed and gave him a hug. "Thank you for finding me and saving me." "Oh no problem it was great that I have found a strong girl like yourself. You never even gave up even when you were shot in your leg. How is your leg doing anyways?" "It feels a lot better now. Thanks to you for saving me." I then smiled at him he then smiled baack. "Well I just came to see how you're doing, I have to go find some more survivors. Okay?" "Okay." He then left the room. I then fell back asleep. The next day he came back to see me. He then saw me walking well the next day I was able to walk completely fine. Everyone was surprised that I had made a full recovery within my two days of staying in the hospital. After they discharged me I went back to the little place where Jacob had taken me first. I then went looking for him. Him and his team that have saved me were happy to see I was doing a lot better than when I had first came. I then hugged every soldier that had helped save me including the medics. 8 years later the war had progressed into being more of a struggle than before. At this age I was 20. So instead of sitting back and watching our nation go up into flames I joined the military. I did not hesitate to join. For I wanted to repay those soldiers that had saved my life, so I was going to look for survivors too.
