#12 My Grandmother Was A Fighter Read Count : 95

It took a lot for my granny to pass away with all her body parts in tact.

The enemy fought with everything he had, attacking her heart, her toe, her ability to walk, her lungs, her memory, she fought back.

In all the operations that were suggested, she chose to die with everything intact.

She defied science, when she was on life support, they said there was nothing more they could do, and the very next day after they said that, she started coming back to life, and within a few weeks she was out of hospital, Alive!

She refused to remain immobilized, she fought with all her might and within a month she was back on her own 2 feet.

She fought tooth and nail with all these generational trends in our family history, of people dying with some of their body parts having been amputated. She would not allow even her toe to be cut-off.
Of people being unable to get up on their own, so they remain on the sick bed until they pass away.
Of people being unable to bath themselves in their last days, she insisted on bathing herself.
Of people having a stroke, and being paralyzed on one side / unable to talk. Though she had blood clots occassionally, she defied the family trend by having mobility till the end, being able to talk till the end.

She fought the good fight, she broke the trends, there was a fierce fight going on even on the inside of her, but she prevailed.
Because it was a fierce battle, she came out with some of her memory tainted.

She refused to die in a hospital, she would often even verbalise it. As a result she dreaded going there, and she dreaded being there. So she came back home, so that she could take her final rest peacefully in her room.

My granny was a strong woman, she had a lot to carry...
The passing of her son at an early age through murder
Having to take care of her other son who became mentally disturbed from teenage-hood
Almost all of her family members died in her care, she literally had to close their eyes, so she stopped the trend and closed her own eyes.

My granny was a fighter...
My granny was a trend breaker...
My granny knew what she wanted and was willing to do all she could to attain it...
Mu granny was gracious...
My granny was strong...
My granny was full of love and compassion...
My granny defied the odds...

She passed away on the 9th of December 2017, after many years of fighting.

In 2015 she called me and told me they were proud of me.

And today, I am proud of her, but I cannot tell her, because this is a story about her last days.
