Many people may think I’m crazy to be so attached to that small piece of paper. They don’t see the symbolism behind it the real reason I’m attached to it. You see this isn’t an ordinary paper for its a cordiform piece of paper. Cordiform also known as heart shaped and, what makes this piece of paper so special you may ask? Well that’s because of something that happened many many years ago when I was just a young girl. I was fresh out of college and was just beginning my life as a vet. 8 years of rigorous schooling to get to where I was. I had graduated top of my class and even left with honors. I had a dream to make it to the top and be the best vet my little town had ever seen. In retrospect if you were to ask someone they would probably tell you that I had accomplished that dream. They are probably right because as I had been the top vet in town that wasn’t what my greatest memory is.

It all happened 4 years after I had worked as a vet. I was 26 years old and had a promising future ahead of me. That was when Logan walked in and looked directly at me. Logan Shasta the most talked about person in town. He walked up handed me his dog and said she needed an bath and her claws cut. I know what your thinking “why would that be such a good memory from the past?” Well patience I’m getting there you see after that day Logan kept coming in saying his dog needed something done. Most days he’d come in and say the dog needed a bath even though I knew she didn’t. Until eventually one day he had come in and asked if he could take me out after work.

Although hesitant at first I knew Logan was a good guy and agreed to go out with him. It was a nice picnic on this beautiful hill. It had an oak tree that everyone in town loved to come see. Not to mention the view I mean it was absolutely breathtaking.

After a few weeks had passed I found myself truly falling for Logan. Then in a few months I knew without a doubt that I loved him completely. 3 months into us going out on dates Logan asked me to be his girlfriend. I said yes immediately something he teased to me about constantly.

After two years had gone by me and Logan were as strong as could be. There comes a time though when a couples Love is tested. That day came for me and Logan when he was sent to fight for our country. He was going to be gone a long time and it scared me. I trusted Logan with all my heart and he trusted me as well. I was scared of having to live a life where I didn’t see Logan everyday.

I learned to adjust though and I dragged myself to work each day. The first 3-4 months I could tolerate but after that I became a complete mess. I was so busy with work that I couldn’t even find time to call him. It was even harder for him to adjust I could imagine.

Years had gone by and Logan would leave multiple times for long periods of time. Each time with me constantly having to worry about his safety. It all came crashing down on January 13th and it became the day forever in my memory. I had woken up at 8:00 in the morning to see two men standing outside my door.

If you hadn’t already guessed it Logan died in battle. The only belongings was a box one which Logan told nobody to open and, give to me if he were to pass. It took me months to even look at the box knowing that whatever was in it Logan wanted me to see. When I finally opened it though I was absolutely shocked to see what it was.

Inside the box was the cordiform card and, written on it was the words will you marry me with a ring taped to it. I treasure that card and ring with my life because it’s something Logan wanted. He wanted me to have this box Incase he never got to say the words himself.

I’m now 87 years old and to this day I still have the ring on my finger and I keep the card with me whenever. The people around here they didn’t know me when I was younger and they didn’t know Logan. They don’t understand and they never will understand how precious this paper is to me.

This tiny piece of paper can hold great meaning with the right words attached.

The end
