There is a difference between having self respect and being egotistical.  Self respect is having the right amount of self confidence and dignity. An egotistical person, has the characteristic of being excessively conceited and narcissistic. It is superior to prioritize self respect rather than our own ego because self respect allows us to stand tall and feel remarkable, while ego separates you from the crowd, seizes you into a dark room of isolation, and completely destroys you. In order to gain self respect, one needs to forgive and accept who they truly are as an individual. They can practice respecting themselves by looking in the mirror and telling themselves that they are worthy and important. The more they say something, the more they will start to believe it is true. Another example of self respect, is not trying so hard to be normal. Instead of trying to blend in, learn who you really are and take control of your own life. If one does not respect themselves, others will not respect them either. Without others to support one another, one will start to lose their close friends or family and will eventually lose themselves. They will start to believe they are nothing but worthless and may slip into a dark world of serious depression. One can prevent the inability of having no respect for oneself by staying true to their core beliefs and not caring about other people’s negative judgements. Having self respect, exhibits strength and moral nerve, and will make someone a better person after all. They will learn to display a strong character and have the alacrity to obtain responsibility for their own lives.
