My Muse

I thought you had abandoned me
I was empty, lost, and alone
The easy closeness we once shared
Was gone
For so long you whispered to me
Poems you recited
Stories you told
And I, ever so faithfully
Wrote them down
Like the scribes of old
Sagas unfolded, dramas were born
Your words so often carried me
When my life was torn
The syllables were like a therapy
Unravelling my own bitterness
I found love and joy
I touched upon a bliss
I was gainfully employed
Until you left me
But it wasn't you that left
Was it, my Muse?
It was I
