You’re fighting and not caring
You’re staring yet not caring
You’re standing yet not handing
You’re here but not present
You can fight
You can stare
You can stand
Pretend you’re the model parent
But you and I both know
There’s a lot more than just knowing I exist
You have to be there
You can’t just fight because of me
You have to care about me
You can’t just stare at me like I’m unknown
Without giving a thought to my well being
You can’t stand there
Without giving me a hand
You can’t be a parent
Without actually trying to parent
Without trying to actually
Teach
Protect
And enjoy
The life of parenthood
