The last stop... three hours walk, two hour bike to the bus stop near the outskirts of town. I've come this far, past the city lights, the noise, the angry street man yelling into a plastic bag because hes too far into his addictions; past the suburbs, quiet neighborhoods filled with mystery. Now just the edge stands before me. The bus leads to a stop where the dark countryside meets civilization and the only thing stopping me is the guilt.

Do I really have to leave? Is really there nothing for me where I've spent the last 22 years of my life? Where I've established friendships, where my mother sleeps, where my brothers go to school, where my wife sleeps now, not knowing that when she wakes I will be gone... is there nothing here for me?

The answer is clear. Two bottles of bourbon have given me clear sight. Not enough to drive, but enough to see the road I'm walking on isn't entirely headed for my future success. I know this is good for me. I know this is good for everybody.

I pick up my backpack, my only possessions compacted into a black sack, hoisted on my back with straps, this is what is left of my old life. My new life begins now. With eight dollars and forty-three cents, an outfit and some toiletries.

 I couldnt be any happier...
