Mommy how did you and Daddy meet again? “I’ve told you this a hundred times.” I want to hear it again please Mommy! “Ok fine but only beacause you siad please.”

“It was 8 years ago when me and your father met. I was 18 at the time and I would always imagine when I’d get a boyfriend. I was crossing the west corner street. The one by Bob’s deli and it had started raining. Now I would’ve just kept walking but I had important papers I had to get to my Mom. Your Dad had come in and handed me his umbrella. It was bright red with dragons on top of it. He said it was an orginal design and that I needed it more than him. I could tell he wasn’t going to take no for an answer so I went home. I put the umbrella in my closet and changed into dry clothes. I gave my Mom the papers which were my college acceptance letters. I didn’t know who the guy was but I wanted to do something to thank him. So I sat in my chair and I got a pen and paper. I wrote a note thanking the guy for the umbrella and hung them all over town. Nobody came forward to claim they were the guy so after awhile it had been long forgotten.”

“Four years had passed and I was 22 years old. I was standing in my mirror continuously checking to make sure my outfit was perfect. I had an interview for a very important job. They were a big company and I wanted to impress. I did end up impressing them and I got the job. I had met all my coworkers and all the important people in the building. 4 weeks I had worked there and I had yet to meet the boss though. I had begun to think there wasn’t even a boss for me to meet.”

“So I go home after work still wondering if I’ll ever meet this boss. When on the side of the road a guys car had broken down. I decide to stop and help the guy. He told me that it’s been in the shop for a month. He just got it back an hour ago and it just quit on him. It wouldn’t even start back up. He said nobody can come for at least three hours. So I said he could use my phone at home and call someone to pick him up.”

“We are at my house and I hand him my phone. He calls a buddy of his and asks him to come get him. I had just recently moved into that house so there was still boxes out on the floors. I had went to get some water when he enters the kitchen. Holding the umbrella in his hands. He asks me where I got it from and how I have it. I told him the entire story and even showed him the note I wrote.”

“He said so excitedly that he was indeed that kid. That was his umbrella he had made it. I was so shocked because 1 I never thought I’d ever see the guy again and 2 I never thought I’d be able to help him in exchange. Out of all the people it happened to be the same person.”

“Weeks had gone by and we became close friends. I thanked him repeatedly for giving me his umbrella all those years ago. He thanked me for pulling over to help him as well. He still hasn’t managed to get his car fixed so he decided to rent one instead. Imagine my shock when I found out the guy also happened to be my boss. I had unknowingly helped my boss who hadn’t met me all because of his car.”

“Eventually me and him started dating and we got married. That same guy became your Dad. Everyday I’m thankful for the umbrella.”
