Today would have been Steve's 59th birthday. Our community sponsored a day trip on a paddle boat going out of Sanford, FL and heading down the St. John's River through Monroe Lake. I thought I would think of it as a day to celebrate Steve's birthday instead of just feeling so low.
I loved the trip. We got seats at a table right at the paddle wheels. I took lots of pictures and they came out better than I thought they would as the light was never right with big windows all around. It was a relaxing ride. We haven't done anything fun for quite some time. I have some money Steve left me saved for a trip but we haven't found anything we can do as yet. There are lots of places to go but haven't decided yet.
Back to the paddle boat ride. The weather was beautiful, a little warm, but air conditioned in boat. We all sat at tables because a lunch was served. The lunch was very, very good and was our dinner. We eat dinner most times around noon or so. The meal we chose was chicken Parmesan. It was so tender and scrumptious. Long green beans were done just right and had a flavoring. The twisted noodles with tomato sauce on them were also really good. Before dinner a little salad was served. It was mostly a kind of lettuce, but the dressing was good. For desert we had red velvet cake rectangular slices with really pretty icing decorations. It all was so good that it was worth the trip just for the dinner.
They asked the veterans to raise their hands and they thanked them. They asked for how long a couple has been married. They kept going up to 64 and no one said any higher. They they asked her about it and she said it would have been 64 if he was still alive so she cheated. One other person said 60 years but didn't have spouse with her. They they asked for the couples to dance to an Elvis song and Bob and I were the only ones that danced. They had it on a TV for the people on the upper floors.
Along the ride a person told stories about the river and the old time paddle boats which this one “The Barbara Lee” was a replica. Many used to go up and down the river in the 1920s. He told of an abundance of wildlife, but we didn't see any of them. They must have been hiding from the afternoon hot sun. The fellow who talked said that the boat ride was a family owned business and all about how he got started. He said he would be joking around a lot on the trip so not always sure if he was joking or it was true except when telling facts. It was entertaining.
A man played a guitar and there was a little dance floor. The fellow wore a bright yellow shirt with guitars all over it. Everyone was very, very helpful and friendly. They came around constantly to see if everything was OK.
Near the end of the ride I got up to go to the bathroom. I went alone and I should have asked Bob to go with me. He had been holding me a lot as I'm so dizzy all the time. There were many little step ups and step downs to watch out for. I was standing by the bathroom door waiting my turn when the music became the “Electric Slide.” I love that dance and decided I would do a couple of steps with my cane. I should have known better. One turn and I tumbled backwards landing on my butt with a touch of my head to the floor. The most embarrassing part of this was it took four people to help me up. I kept falling back down like I had ice skates on. Finally, I was up and only seemed to hurt my right butt cheek and a little hurt but no bump on my head.
Bob heard someone say that someone had fallen. He knew I was going to the bathroom so he came running there to see if it was me. He helped me back to my seat. I'm quite sore but nothing broken “Thank you God.” I kept thinking of my neighbor Rodger who fell on a trip not too long ago and almost died, being in hospital unconscious and long recovery.
The hour and a half ride home was a bit hard. Not being comfortable was hard with the pain and I'm always so, so tired all the time anymore. I just wanted to be home in bed. Jo Coman sitting with Cathy behind me gave me her big purse so I could lean on it against the window. I used it awhile but had to keep moving around. To boot, I was sitting in the sun. Bob kept offering to change seats with me, but I didn't want to get up and move or let him be hot in the sun. It was probably the only seat in the bus that had the sun coming in the window, but the whole bus was not as cool like on the trip up.
We arrived home safely about 3 pm. I went right to bed and slept most of the afternoon waking up whenever I moved. I still think it was a wonderful trip and would love to do it again, all except the last part. I wish I could lose some weight. It would help a lot of my problems, but then maybe I would break things instead of hurting fat parts when I fall. LOL
