The cabin was completely abandoned when Elliot and I found it. There was a big room with a pot and fire wood inside, then there was a smaller room that was connected, this would be the bedroom where me and Elliot slept. The bedroom held two big candles that looked like they belonged in a living room on a coffee table, an old, dirty, full sized mattress, with a thick, grey blanket, and what looked like an old fireplace. I walked back out into the big room and set my stuff down. "Elliot," I said quietly. "Yeah?" He responded. "This is our new home. Okay?" Elliot nodded and looked around slowly, " but, there are no windows." I looked around and noticed that he was right. There were no windows. Elliot's eyes started to tear up, I grabbed both of his hands, "Elliot, you know that I love you, right?" He nodded, "so, that means you know that I would never let anything bad happen to you, right?" He nodded again. "This is our new home," I repeated, "and you'd better get used to it." Today was my 16th birthday and Elliot was turning ten in three months. It hurt to think about how Elliot had to grow up at 9 years old, but this was our new normal, and I was determined to make it work.
