Sometimes on a sleepless night
Long after the rest are in bed
I finally find some quiet time
To consider this life I've led
There's always so many questions: the how's and why's It's hard at times to understand
Just where this path in life is leading me, and how do I make a stand
I mean, it makes sense to me that we pay for the mistakes that we make
An erected prison behind societies back kitchen door
With high chain-linked fences and tall iron gates
Where, once entered, never quite the same anymore
Sometimes when the moment is right and my world has slowed me down
I find myself reflecting back over the good and the bad, the smiles and the frowns
Yeah, it makes sense that everything I have experienced in life
Has developed me into the man I have become.
Who knows where I would be or who I would be
If I had chosen a different road to travel on
No, everything happens for a reason, of this I am most certain
As harsh or as painful as pleasant or as sweet
My choices are the scenes behind each changing curtain
But these are just thoughts I entertain trying to sleep
Sometimes on a sleepless night
