Ok kids are you ready for an amazing camping trip? It had been a long time since the Kendall's was able to take a family vacation. Mark has been working all week to make sure all the details of his family vacation would be perfect. Jr was a little firecracker. He was 7 years old and into everything. Lilly was a sweet shy girl. She is 11 years old loves to read but is drove crazy by her little brother. Both children run into the room with excitement ready to go. Sharon walks into the room behind the kids. I am ready to honey kissing him sweetly on the lips. Last one in the car is a rotten egg. The children race to the car while Mark and Sharon follow behind. This is going to be the best trip evler says Mark.

Hours later the roads started getting windy. The darkness was covering the family as the trees grew thicker and thicker the further in the woods they drove. No sign of a campground in site as Sharon began to wander if they had taken a wrong turn. She could see the worried look on Marks face but thankfully the kids was asleep peacefully in the back seat. As they got further up the road a fog blocked there vision. Suddenly there appeared a river to there right. They felt very uneasy. All at once the car slid to the side of the road. Sharon looked at Mark. What happened? Mark looked at her with fear in his eyes. I don't know but we are getting out of here. He turned the switch, nothing. Turning it again there was still nothing. With fear in her voice Sharon begged Mark. Please start the car, this is not funny. He yelled back it's not me! The car will not start. The scream startled the children. Mommy where are we asked lilly. We are just having car trouble she said in as calm a voice as she could use. Suddenly Mark said what's that? It looks like a porch light said Sharron. It was a old worn down house. The fog around it gave it an eerie haunting look. Mark said someone must be home for a light to be on. I'm going to see if I can borrow there house phone to call for help. Sharon looked at him wide eyed. You are not leaving us out here by ourselves. Ok said Mark we will all go.

The old steps was creeky. There is no way anyone could live here said Sharon. There has to be said Mark. Mark cautiously walked up to the door and knocked. You could hear the knock echo all the way outside. Slowly the door opened as if it was opening by itself. Behind the door standing in a warm glow of lanterns was a tall skinny man. He had pale white skin and dark eyes. In a low sad voice he said "yes". Mark stuttering from fear said, I apologize for any inconvenience sir but our car will not start and we was wanting to use your phone please. The man looked at Mark then back at Sharon, come in. They followed the man in. Sitting in a chair in the corner was a women also pale with dark eyes. She looked up at the man with hopefulness in her eyes, he just shook his head no and her head sank. Mark and Sharon looked at each other bewildered. Sitting in the floor in the shadows beside the lady was a little boy and little girl. The little girl was hugging a doll and the boy was holding a old toy truck. They looked so sad Sharon felt pity for them. They did not look up or speak. Sharon looked at the lady and said hello. The lady just nodded. Sharon stepped back behind Mark and pulled her children closer to her. The man sat down in a large over stuffed chair and said I apologize we do not get many visitors here. Mark smiled and said we will not take up anymore of your time. If we could just use your phone we will be on our way please. The man looked up at him and said we do not have a phone but you and your lovely family do not need to be out there in a storm as bad as this. Mark looked at the man with confusion. There is no.... Then the room lit up from a lightening bolt followed by a crack of thunder that made the house shake. Lilly and Jr screamed in fright as Sharon fell to her knees holding her children close to her. Mark was trembling in fear. He knew in his heart there was no storm when they had walked up to the house. Mark looked at the odd family no expression at all as if they had expected that to happen. The man looked at Mark would you like to stay until the morning. We have plenty of room. I could take you to town tomorrow to get help for your car.  Mark looked at his family then looked at the man with hesitation he said I have no other choice. Very well the man said with a grin on his face. Mark could hear the sobs from his family and knew they did not want to stay. Sharon stood up beside her husband and looked him in the eyes. No words had to be spoken. He gently said honey its for one night and alot safer than in the car. She knew he was right as much as she didn't like it. She looked down at her kids there eyes filled with tears and said well I bet the kids are hungry. The man said we have a kitchen but there is no food. We was going to the market tomorrow to get some. Sharon looked at Mark in disbelief that a family with two small children would not have any food. Mark spoke up and said it's a good thing we brought plenty for our camping trip.  I will walk out to the car and get what we need. Sharon spoke up and said Mark we will help you. Mark didn't want his family in the rain but he knew they did not want to be in there by themselves. They walked out and grabbed everything as quickly as possible and ran back in. Sharon played down the items she had and noticed the children and lady was no longer in the room. She looked at the man and he said they have retired to there rooms for the night. Sharon looked sadly at the man. May I make them something to eat and take it to them. I would not want them to go to bed hungry. The man said thank you but they are ok. Once they are in there rooms they do not wish to be bothered. There is a room with two beds upstairs. Please make yourself at home said the man. I shall be up at 5 in the morning to go to town. I will see you then. He turned and was gone. Sharon turned to Mark I don't like this honey, the family does not talk except the man, they do not have food for there children and put them to bed hungry. Honey, said Mark, you are scaring the children. The family sat in the front room bundled up together. Not one candle burned out. The eerie sound of the storm outside the glow of the never ending candles kept the family up all night.

It was 5 in the morning the family had everything packed waiting for the man to walk in. Mark looked at Sharon see honey, nothing happened. The storm is over the man is going to take us to town for help. Sharon looks out the window. It was still dark and the fog still can't overed everything. She still did not feel right about something. The man walked downstairs. I hope you had a goodnight. Yes sir Mark said. Thank you for your hospitality. The man looked at him with a grin on his face ,no thank you. Mark didn't know what to say. The man said my car is in the garage if you would like to pull it up front the keys are in it. I would like to speak with my wife a moment. Mark said he would be glad too. Mark, Sharon and the children walked out to the garage. Opening up the door they saw an extremely old car. He looked at Sharon and said I hope it runs. Sharon and the kids got in the back seat and Mark git in the driver's side. Make sure everyone is buckled up. The family buckled there seatbelts and Mark backed out of the driveway and pulled in front of the house. Still no sign of the man. Mark cut off the engine and tried to unbuckle his seatbelt to get into the passenger side. The seatbelt was stuck. He pulled and pulled. Sharon said what's wrong honey. This seatbelt want unbuckle said Mark. Suddenly the car started up. Mark looked up in fear. Why did you start the car said Sharon. I didn't said Mark, it started itself. Sharon started trying to unbuckle her seatbelt. It was stuck. The kids was stuck also. Next you could hear the engine revving up. Quit that Mark said Sharon. It's not me Mark said as he was frantically trying to get the seatbelt off. Just then the car jumped in gear. The family was screaming and crying. Mark was trying to control the steering wheel but something else had control of that car. Suddenly the car went off the bank into the river. The screams and Cry's all disappeared. As the last bubbles left the top of the water stillness came over the water as if nothing ever happened.

Standing in the front room Mark looked at Sharon and the kids. What happens? Where are we? We are back in the front room of the old house. The car accident must have been a horrible nightmare. But why would we all dream it mommy asked Jr. I don't know said Mark I just want to get out of here. Suddenly there was a knock at the door. The family just looked at each other then the door slowly opened by itself. It was the man and his wife and children. They had beautiful color to there skin, bright smiles on there face. The children was happy and giggling whispering to each other. The mother stepped forward and said thank you. For what said Mark what is going on. You see said the women. We was also traveling this road many years ago when our car went off the road and into the river. Next thing we knew we was in the house across from where we had just wrecked. We was devastated it wasn't our time so our spirits was stuck in the house until another family drove by and met the same fate we did. Only then would our spirits be alive again so we can finish living our life. When your car didn't go off the road we was so disappointed. Luckily the old car in the garage still ran so now we can be free and live. Sharon screamed no this is a nightmare, it's not real. The lady looked at her and said is it? And laughed as Marks car and started it right up. Driving past the house the man took one last look at the house all he saw was Mark, Sharon, Jr and Lilly in the window. He could tell they was screaming and crying. He just grinned turned around and never looked back.
