                          Part One

This Writing Is Based On True Events

She was born someplace many considered heaven. Some said, "It must be nice, living at a place like that!", "You're so lucky!".

Tell me, when you hear the place Hawaii, what do you think?

Many would say it's paradise. The beaches, the food, the fireworks on the Fourth of July, how they all creep upward and explode into a symphony of colors.

And others say it's a living hell.

What if I told you Hawaii was one of the very few places you should choose to live.

Now, this girl's name was Hazel Fears. She was born October 27, 2003. Her mother and father never married, so she woul go back and forth between them. Spending Monday through Friday with her mother and sister, and spending the rest of the week with her father.

And life, life wasn't easy. More than half the population lived in poverty, her family included. Her mother gave birth to her first child when she was 16 to Hazel's half-brother, who left to live in California.

Being born in Hawaii meant that she could see the ocean everyday. She could feel the breeze, breathe in the fresh air, and spend the summer running along the beach.

It also meant that she relied on food that her school provided her, eating just one meal at home. Her mother would be gone throughout the day, working to provide them with money.

She would also be at school throughout most of the night, leaving Hazel to take care of her older sister, who suffered from slight Autism. Everyday, they would walk to school. There were no buses, they didn't have a car, and eventually, they didn't have a house.

If you could tell one thing to this girl, what would it be?
