There was once a time long ago where I was innocent...

Completely oblivious...

To all the world around me...

I didn’t have any problems to worry about...

I was completely unaware of the people and problems that existed all around...

At one time long ago...

I wished I could go back to that obliviousness...

The cluelessness...

I didn’t know what it felt like to be bullied...

I didn’t worry about what other people were thinking about...

I didn’t care about how I looked...

I didn’t worry about whether an A or C would show on my report card ...

I didn’t know about the fundamental things that come when you get older...

Just once, I wished I could go back to that time...

I didn’t know about heated presidential elections...

Kids eating tide pods...

And school shootings happening around the globe...

Just once I wanted to go back to get a breather from the stress...

Of keeping up an image as they say...

Make sure you’re not showing any skin...

Make sure you’re dressing modestly, but to what end...

What did you eat today you...

Want to make sure you’re watching that...

To much calories and you’ll go right off the deep end...

No helping you after that...

Did you do your hair today...

It looks absolutely dreadful...

What about your makeup...

It looks like you have nothing on...

People can still see your face...

They can see your pimples...

They need to be covered don’t you think...

Why in the world are you wearing converse...

You aren’t going to be playing basketball with the neighbor boys...

Put your heels back on...

You need to be proper...

Come on I taught you better...

Why haven’t you got a boyfriend yet...

It’s about time you get together with someone...

We can’t have you being single in this world...

It would be an utter shame

Now make sure you tell those girls to stop commenting about you...

You can’t be a coward forever ...

They bully you because they can...

Hey!

What do you think you’re doing?

This is for boys...

This is a boys sport...

And you are clearly a girl...

You don’t belong on the court...

Get out and go paint your nails...

Or watch a chick flick...

You’re not welcome here...

No!

Of course you can’t go to that party...

There are boys there...

I don’t want you getting hurt Jenny...

We care about you...

The boys may get weird...

I don’t want any of those kids there...

Being a rotten influence on you...

I don’t need it...

I need you to be a model child...

Show the world what a great girl you are...

Be proper...

Be modest...

Be perfect...

That word...

That one simple word...

The one word that pulled me back...

Kept me grounded where I am...

I had wanted to go back...

But I was reminded that society parents, friends, lovers, expect perfection...

The model image of a woman, who would be the one to break the mental blinders?

Who would unmask the lies we’ve been living under?

If only I was living in my utopia from so long ago...

This was good, but it runs fairly long. I cut out ten percent and did a little work to bring it together.
