I kneeled down and prayed to Hades. Sure it didn't matter much without a temple dedicated to him, but it felt right. I looked at my companions. Derick seemed fine. But Jay and Helania stood away from the group. I turned to Helania, thinking I should talk to her, but then I saw her wipe away a tear. It would kill her if she knew I saw that.

Then the thought hit. My mother had made her cry. That evil, self-absorbed, shady, good for nothing, bitch, made the strongest person I knew cry. I just wanted her dead.

I looked at Jay. He sighed sadly and looked down at his feet. I was facing the direction the Gilds soldiers ran. He shook his head and mumbled to himself.

"Goddammit!" I suddenly turn back to Helania. She picked up a rock and threw it at a building. "Dammit dammit dammit!" She punched the closest thing to her.

"What?" Jay said as he walked up to her.

"What happened to him?! He was such a good kid!" She sounded angry and sad at the same time.

"Who?" Jay placed a hand on her shoulder.

"Alexander!"

"I thought you said you didn't know the king's kids." Jay arched an eyebrow.

"I lied. I knew him. We were best friends. He thought me how to defend myself. And he didn't even recognize me! I spent almost all my days off with him. And he forgot about me! I thought he'd at least remember my hair. Not everyone has red hair!" She kicked something. "He was a good kid. And then he sided with them! And he forgot me."

"So you were the girl he snuck off with. He talked of you fondly." I turned to Derick. I almost forgot he was there.

"Did you ever meet the younger one?" I asked her, seeing if she knew any more. I knew it wasn't the time, but she wouldn't answer it any other time.

"No, I only know his name. We stayed as far as possible from siblings. If my brothers knew I snuck out with a guy..." She trailed off. "I remember once, we went into the woods. It was late so no one would notice. We vowed to be friends forever." She burst into tears and fell to her knees.

I ran over to her and hugged her. How could someone forget something like that? A new hatred rose in me. I hated him before, but now I hated him more.

She wiped her eyes and pushed me away. She got up and strode off. Me Derick, and Jay guided the horses behind her. We gave her space. She fiddled with a necklace she had. Why did she agree to go out there if she knew he could recognize her? That would have blown the whole mission. Then a thought popped into my head. What if she wanted him to recognize her? A friendship like that. She must have loved him. Then he sided with my mother. And there she was again. Making her cry. If that woman ever existed! Sure I wouldn't be here, but Helania would be happy.

I sighed and shook my head. Then I heard Jay whisper something.

"He really was a good kid."

Did everyone here know him? This must be tough for them. Seeing someone you knew turn away from you. Derick probably thought him. Helania loved him. But how did Jay know him?

"How do you know Alexander?" I turned to him.

"He was my... friend. I remember him sneaking off with her. I didn't know it was her. If he forgot her, he forgot me too. She was his best friend. He loved her."

Well, shit. What did my mother do to turn away from the people he loved. If she treated him, he would remember them. This was something different. I looked at the horizon. Then I saw it.

My castle! Why were we heading for it? Why hadn't I noticed?! Shit. We're all going to die. There's no way four of us could sneak into there! God dammit. How the hell did they think we could get in. I quickly prayed to Athena. Gods give us wisdom...
