I guess trusting Ahmeria was a long jump, but I don't blame her for wanting to escape. I heard that she was nice, helping people and stuff. I guess I never believed that a murderous bitch could produce someone who cared. But I still kept tabs on her, nice or not. She was born 3 days after me and was practically banished to her room every day. Her mother was really evil.

We walked along the road, we would reach the north battlefront in another day. For the most part, only Jay talked. He was really chatty. We'd answer if we needed to, but the talk was idle.

We got to a forest clearing and set up camp. Through the clearing, you could just see the old Castle that the King sat in. He was the laziest person I knew. Sighed, then noticed Ahmeria staring at it.

"It looks so old. And run down. It looks sad like it hasn't seen a smile in years."

"It hasn't, with such a lazy king and the war. No one inside has been happy since the queen died. She was a wonderful person. When I worked up there she was always kind to me." I twirled the knife she gave me when I said I wanted to learn to fight. I smiled.

"Yeah, the King only sits on his ass and lets his generals run the battle," Jay spoke like her wanted to curse a lot more. "May the gods have pity on his soul."

"This wars has no good side. On ruler would kill everyone who coughed in her presence, and the other one is lazy. We need a strong, kind leader. Maybe the kings younger son and you," I nodded to Ahmeria, "Could come to a peace agreement. I hear the Kings younger son is a good Officer in the East."

"Nah, I know him. He's still a small foot soldier. Can't take orders." Derick chuckled. Jay snorted. I shrugged anyone who can pick up a sword is good enough for me.

In the morning we got back to the road. We reached a town that was just before the battle. It should be evacuated, but then I smelled it. Fire.

"Everyone, get to cover." I disappeared into the tree line. They followed. I slowly advanced. The green armored people laid lifeless. The red of Gilds stood and laughed as more houses burst into flames. The leader of the evil men took off his helmet. It was Alexander, the Kings oldest son. My eyes grew big. I backed out if earshot.

"Someone needs to distract him. We need to play the damsel in distress card." Jay said, looking at me and Ahmeria.

"Not me, he'll recognize me. He spent time with my mother." Ahmeria shook her head.

"Shit. Give me your cloak." I held my hand out, Ahmeria handed it to me. I took off my amour and wrapped it around me. I sighed and stumbled out. I put o my best 'help me' face, and limped. The first guard who took notice of me called out. Alexander came and snickered. They checked me for weapons. Thank Hera I left them with Jay. I fell to the ground, shivering. An older man walked up. He was of a higher rank.

"Give the girl a blanket. She is no worry to us." He spoke kindly, almost like he didn't belong in a war. He's probably one of the soldiers the Queen threatened to get on her side. They gave me a small cup of water. I wiped it and looked better.

"What happened?" The older man asked pointing to my ripped clothes.

"Some soldiers saw me. They saw my red hair and thought I was the Queen's daughter. They tore my clothes. And cut me up." Before I stumbled out I made my cheek bleed again. I also cut my arms up a little bit.

"Well, you look like her. Except she has blue eyes. Yours are gray. Where were you?"

"Near the river walking my horse. They killed her." I wiped away a fake tear.

"What was her name?"

"Bella." At the signal word, I jumped up and punched someone in the face. My group rushed out. Jay threw me my swords and my knife.

I and Ahmeria fought side by side. Jay took down about 15 people before anyone knew what was happening. Alexander a few more ran. In 5 minutes fat, everyone was dead or gone. The older man who gave me a blanket was bleeding out. I walked up to him.

"Sorry."

"Just kill me. Please. If she hears I lived, she'd kill my daughter. Please." He coughed up blood.

"Sorry." I slid my knife over his throat.

I messed with the broken stone pendant my father wore when he died. I stood up and walked around. A tear slid down my cheek.
