Human Connection Read Count : 126

All of us, in our own way, have a need to connect with others. Human connection is part of life. The way we choose to connect may differ. Those who are outgoing extroverts with excellent social skills may not have problem connecting with others. But the more reserved introverts may hold themselves back. Either way, the need for connection is still there.

There are also other ways to connect. Singers, for example, make their connection through their songs, artists through their art, and writers through their writings.

Since I'm not a singer or an artist, I'd like to talk about something I know about - me and my writings - why do I write?

The connection between me, as a writer and my readers is a very personal and an intimate affair. When I write, I bare my mind and heart and even my soul; my very essence, for my readers to see, feel and hopefully understand.

It's all out there, out in the open; in all its strength and vulnerability. Stripped naked and exposed. How they are received, is something that usually doesn't come to mind. My writings could be understood and accepted, or they could be rejected or ridiculed or just ignored, it doesn't really matter. What matters to me is putting my writings out there for the sake of making some sort of a connection.

And sometimes, whether I know it or not, someone out there may read my words and feel them so deeply as if they were written just for them, or about them, and they find that they can relate and take something from it.

This connection, as a writer, is my greatest reward. The most beautiful compliment and the biggest form of encouragement I could hope for.

Rest of it.... everything else.... is just extras that happen to happen along the way.

  • Your writing has and continues to be an inspiration to me, Baby Sis. Where one may throw smoke screens or lift masks, you throw open the door and keep it real whether it's pretty or not, popular or hard to receive. I seriously love listening. I don't have to tell you how often what you say and how I read it gets lost in translation, but I wouldn't be where I am today if not for you and your writing.
