Coco review

When I first got recommended to watch this, I thought this was going to be a movie I WOULDN'T enjoy. And boy was I wrong. Not only did I enjoy it but I've been mildly obsessed with it for weeks. I simply CAN'T GET ENOUGH!

A short (non spoiler) summary. Miguel has a dream about being a musician. His family forbids ANY music to be played in or around their family ever since Miguel’s Great great grandfather abandoned the family to “play for the world" and never came back. During the Mexican holiday, Dia de los Muertos (day of the dead) Miguel makes the discovery from a family pic that his great great grandfather was the famous Mexican Musician Ernesto De La Cruz. Miguel tries to choose passion and music over working in his family’s shoe making business, and finds himself cursed in the land if the dead, searching for his great great grandfather so he can go back to the land of the living and be a musician… passion or family? Which would you go for?

First bad then end with good news.

What I disliked about it… first off the world always seems to think only 2 languages exist in the world, which can be a language barrier in some cases. I personally am trying to learn Russian so this whole review is coming from someone with just as much Spanish language knowledge as whatever she's gotten out of watching shows like Dora the explorer, or Spirit Riding Free (end of season 4). Or reading the Skippyjon jones series. So, in other words, I only know the basics. Yet I still enjoy it.

What I like… Despite the language barrier, which is possibly causing more confusion than I know about, This is (in my opinion) one of the best movies I've seen. It still amazes me how this movie was 6 years in the making before it's final release in 2017. Quality animation. Catchy songs, not only are they NOT the same iconic Mexican melody (you know what tune I'm talking about? Yah, that one.) But they are catchy. The album has quickly rose to the top of my playlists despite I don't understand some words. I didn't see how they could award the music for anything when I first heard about it being awarded the “best original song" but now I see where that's coming from. The music is practically the best part! And another thing. In past reviews I've talked about how some shows really lacked making me feel emotions and how I kind of enjoy tearing up. This movie definitely had strong emotions. Cried at least 4 times when I watched it. Very emotional, great plot, catchy music, relatable characters.

I'm gonna give this movie a 100/100 and definitely recommend it. People may not agree but I think it deserves it. I'm just upset that I didn't make an effort to see it in theaters. I believe that would have been fun.
