"So little Audrey, what do you like to do?" L asked her. She had moved from sitting a few feet away from him to leaning against the cell bars. L was also leaning against it, both calm in each others presence as they passed the white carnation back and forth, admiring it.

"I love to draw and catch critters. You should see my grandma's house! She has a big garden where all the pretty butterflies like to go, but we only visit her a few times a year."

"Do you have any other family members?"

"My father and my big sister. They both work here and keep bad guys from hurting anyone."

"Huh. What are their names? I may have met them."

"Daddy's name is John and my big sisters name is April." L paused for a moment.

"April?"

"Yeah. She's awsome! She always helps me with homework and spends time with me, even when she has to work a lot! She's the best police officer in the world!"

"I-I see. And is she...is she here with you?"

"Yep. She said she needed to find something. She should be back soon." L seemed to relax when she said this.

"Thank goodness. If someone else other than your sister or William saw me talking to you, we would be in a heap of trouble."

"You know Willy?"

"Willy? Who's that?"

"Will silly! That's my name for him." L barked out a laugh.

"Well, that name sure does suit him, quite well actually."

"Hey L..."

"Hm?"

"Do you know my sister? She talks about someone at her job like you."

"Yes, I do. Wait...what does she say about me? Did she ever mention how wonderfully brilliant I am?"

"Um, not really." She smiled and added: "She says you drive her crazy and that you're the most annoying person she's met."

"Aw, come on, that can't be it."

"She also says that you're sad. Very sad but she wouldn't tell me why."

"I suppose I am." Audrey grew quiet, but a moment later she stood up and turned to face him. She placed her hands on her hips in a determined pose before saying:

"I'll help you L. I promise! I'll help you feel better and not be sad anymore!" L stared at her from his seat on the floor.

"But why?" Audrey smiled at him.

"Because I trust you! You're a hero, and heroes can't be sad!" And at that moment, L felt a strange feeling. A feeling he only experienced a few times his whole life. Not happiness, but pure confusion.

                        .....................

"Thank you again William. What I need to find is...very important to me." April said, starting up his computer.

"Sure, no problem. Can I ask what?"

"Remember when I told you Audrey was adopted? I looked into it and couldn't find any info about it. The librarian told me I should see where she was adopted for more information."

"And you're using my computer to find out where she was born?"

"Exactly." A moment or two passed before anyone said anything.

"April, how much have you figured out about L?"

"Well, his father is still alive. His mother believed he was some demon sent from hell, which is why she stitched on that mask. She was tricked into believing that. L also has a sister who was given up for adoption and killed all those people for the wrongs they did."

"I-is that all?"

"Yeah, pretty much."

"April, did you ever think that maybe....Audrey is his sister?" April paused.

"Yeah, actually, I do. It all makes sense. The reason why he came here, why he was watching us, the timeline. I just, I need to be sure."

"Right, but April...."

"Found it! Audrey Baxter. Born and adopted in a town 549 miles away! If I leave now I should be able to figure out everything I need and come back in just 5 days!"

"Wait, April, you can't possibly think about leaving."

"Well, why not?"

"We need you here! And what about your dad, Audrey, what are you going to tell them?"

"I'll tell Audrey. My dad....I'm not so sure. Actually, no, I can't tell him. He would never let me go. Please Will, you can't tell him. I have to do this." William looked at her for a long moment before finally giving in.

"I'll watch over Audrey and L for you, and I'll make sure no one follows you."

"Yes! Thank you so much!" She yelled. "Let's go get Audrey!" April turned toward the main room but Will was past her, a panicked look on his face.

"S-she's not here!"

                     ........................

"You're really bad at drawing." L said, looking over Audreys shoulder at her sketchbook.

"I am not!"

"Well, what is that suppose to be? Looks like some sort of mutated dark creature of death."

"Its you!"

"..........oh. Well, let me tell you, I am not that hideous."

"Okay, its finished! Here, take it." She said, handing it to her. He took it gently from her and stared at it.

"Thank-"

"Audrey!" April yelled, running into the room. "Please don't run off like that! I had no idea where you went or what happened!" She enveloped her in a tight hug.

"I'm sorry. I was just talking to L." She said, voice muffled by her tight embrace. April looked over her shoulder at L, who waved to her. April smiled back and pulled Audrey away, her face turning serious.

"Audrey, I'm going....away for a while. Just a couple of days abd I'll be back."

"What? But why?"

"I...I need to do something. Pkease understand. William will be here for you, now please, can you go with him so he can take you to the house?" Audrey grabbed her hand.

"Please come back April. Don't get hurt."

"Hey, of course I'm coming back! Its just gonna take some time. I promise." Audrey nodded and gave her one last hug before following William out.

"Is it true? Are you really going somewhere?"

"Yes."

"Well, where?"

"To where Audrey was born." L stiffened and stared at her in disbelief.

"No, April, you can't go. Please don't go."

"And why can't I? L, I can figure out what happened!"

"April you can't go."

"Well I am and no one can stop me!" And she began to march out the door.

"April don't! Please, April!" L yelled after her, but she ignored him, even when he began to shout her name and bang against the cell bars.
