When the boy moved to Athens Bay

Nobody really cared

New people were normal

So they didn't think to stare!

Until he pulled down his hoodie though

The town had never seen red hair.

There were blonds and brunettes,

Colors of all variety

But everyone was so intrigued by this new discovery!

The way his hair had shined; his curls like curly fries

He was followed, he was talked to-

But only about his hair and how he kept it

How he got it

All he was ever asked

Sick of the attention

He dyed his hair green, but

then, outraged, the people wouldn't accept it!

No longer a red head, he was banished from the town, his heart heavy,

Mind stuck in rain clouds.

Defeated and alone, he walked away at dusk

Not wanting to leave his home, the only place he could trust

Brushing his hoodie over his head like he had once done before

Taking his steps through every open door

Stepping out of his skin into the cold, disrespectful world

Where everyone is judged for what they are and only

What they see

Leaving the outcasts to seeth in resentment.
