THE CREEPER IN THE WOODS Read Count : 117

This morning I was out walking through the neighborhood to get my morning workout in. I decided to stop at the store to buy a Gatorade because I was out of water in my travel bottle. The fastest route was through the woods at the end of my dead end street. This area always gave me the creeps upon entering but I never anticipated what would soon transpire. It's a small path that cut through the tall weeds and trees and once you get part way through, it's almost hard to reveal the daylight sky, the length of wooded area was approximately a quarter mile long.

Once I got into the woods I turned my music off, popped my headsets out and kept my thumb on the "send" key in case of an emergency. The rays of sunlight poking through the tree branches began to cease the further I walked in. Not a person or house in sight.

I got to the middle of the woods and dropped my phone. "Gosh damnit" I said in frustration.

Once I picked up my phone and stood up, I seen a man standing behind an oak tree to my right. "Jesus you scared me asshole!" I uttered in sheer panic. As I examined my phone for possible damage.

The man stood about six feet tall, relatively thin and was wearing all black. He had on a black Pittsburgh Pirates ball cap and I became more fearful by the second.

"Where you going there little Red Riding Hood?" The man questioned me with a smirky smile.

"Who are you, the big bad wolf?" I questioned in return with my sarcasm at it's finest.

"Maybe. And don't get lippy with me little missy" He said moving closer to me.

By now my sarcasm died. I felt intimidated. Was this weirdo going to kill me and leave me for dead? What was this man doing at 9am in the woods, wearing all black for that matter.

"Wha-what is it that you want?" I asked as my voice was shaky, along with the rest of my body.

Then as the man reached for the front of my shirt and pulled me closer to him, he said "I want you."

He was sweaty and I couldn't reveal much of his appearance with the black hat and sunshades. This was it, I was going to die. At the very least I was going to be the victim of rape. The only thing I had going for me was the kick boxing lessons I achieved as a child. Without thinking rational my defense mechanism kicked in and before I knew it, I had thrown him a jab to the face, knocking him down to the ground. That's when I took off running down the path and straight to the other side of the woods, dialing 911.

The cops made an appearance within ten minutes and when they went into the woods to find this individual, he was already gone.

I think everyone should learn self-defense strategies. You can never be too safe nowadays and there's no saying what would have happened to me today.
