Dawn Falldew and the fairy went into Dawn’s bedroom. The walls were light blue, the furniture were in soft, pastel colors and the flowery curtains were as white as snow, which made the fairy feel at ease gazing around the room in wonder. With a hint of pride in her voice, Dawn placed a hand on the light purple dresser and said, “A few years back, me and my mother were at a bargain shop when we saw this broken down dresser, mended it and painted it over with a fresh coat of paint. We had a blast doing that too!” Dawn giggled while she recalled aloud, brushing her fingers fondly over the wooden surface. “In fact, we did that to most of the new furniture you see around here! Neat, huh?”The fairy was even more surprised as all of the furniture seemed brand new and made from scratch.Dawn slowly lowered the fairy down to the dresser, and observed the fairy more closely.“Hey, you are all covered in dirt! You need to have a shower! It’s about time that I’d have to take one as well,” Dawn excitedly scooped the fairy off the dresser and went to the bathroom.-Sometime later in the shower-“Huh? What’s on your back?” Dawn gently tapped her finger on one of the fairy’s wings. As the water washed away the dirt, Dawn could see what she originally assumed to be part of the fairy’s dress was two small shiny white wings. Even the dress changed color, into a deep deep midnight blue.“These are like the wings of a butterfly! Just what are you?” Dawn asked in surprise. The fairy tilted her head to the side in response.“Dawn! I’m home!” Dawn could hear the sound of her mother entering the house. “Mother’s home early!” Dawn cried in joy, “Let’s hurry up and greet her!”After quickly changing into her night gown, Dawn stepped out of the bathroom with the fairy on her hand. She walked to the dining room and could see her mother in the kitchen.“Mother! Look at this girl I found today!” Dawn reached out her hands with the fairy towards her mother coming out of the kitchen.“Isn’t she so tiny!” Mrs Falldew exclaimed in wonder. The fairy could see that Dawn’s Mother was in her forties, with wrinkles around her eyes that highlighted their twinkle (their eyes were so alike!) and despite looking slightly tired, she kept a small smile on her face.“May she stay with us for a while?” Dawn begged. Her mother paused for a while and looked thoughtful. She then burst into a smile, “Sure, she’s a good friend of my daughter after all.”Elated, Dawn grinned at the fairy. “It’s the first time I had a sleepover at my place! We’re going to have so much fun!” Dawn almost leapt in joy, but the fairy was still in her hand, so she did a wriggle instead, making her mother laugh.“But before you do, eat your dinner first, Dawn! And that goes for the little one as well,” Mrs Falldew said sternly.“Yes mother.” Dawn replied as she grinned sheepishly. As they had their dinner, Mrs Falldew turned on the evening news.“An astonishing event has occurred. As many already know, a meteorite shower was found to be the cause of strange plant life growing all over town. However, just this morning, a lady had just discovered even more groundbreaking news, a small winged human girl inside one of these wildflowers. Here is an account from the witness-““Isn’t the girl in the news similar to the friend you just made?” Dawn’s mother asked.“Yup! So you are a fairy!” Dawn said to the fairy quickly, pointing at the screen. After a hearty dinner, Dawn carried the fairy back into her room gently, as the fairy yawned. It was getting late, Dawn reasoned to herself, as she placed the fairy on the desk next to her bed. Then, she got out a fluffy woolen scarf from her drawer. Neatly, she folded a makeshift bed for the fairy, on the desk. The fairy appeared to know what the bed was for, and lay down on the top of it, snuggling into the wool.“You really are tired. Time to sleep,” Dawn was also starting to feel drowsy. “Goodnight,” she said as the turned off the lights.
