I have been a member of this Writer's Outlet community for almost six months now though I must say it feels a lot longer than that. Ever since I joined this app I have also taken the initiative to look around and join some writing groups on Facebook. However, I did not stay long in those groups. They place too many rules and conditions on too many things which made me feel restricted. It's like, "write only about topics we approve of", or "limit your word count to the number we approve of", or "post only when we approve".... and if you don't follow the "rules", you'd be blocked or removed from the group. Like, seriously??? I'm not one who go by the rules especially when it comes to something I'm passionate about so I ended up leaving those groups. I now only belong to one writing group in Facebook, which is the Writer's Outlet group page.
Before anyone start thinking I'm trying to butter Jared up by writing this piece, let me make it clear that is not my intention. I'm here to talk about freedom, passion and expression.
In our community alone, we have a big number of fiction writers and aspiring novelists who come out with amazing stories, storylines and plots on a daily. The way these writers are able to creatively put out these stories like pulling them out of thin air, amazes me. It takes a special skill to be able to create something out of nothing. Everything is done out of the use of their own imagination. That to me, is magical. Imagine what would happen if you put these writers on certain restriction. It would be restricting them from imagining their own imagination. That's crazy, right?
It's the same as restricting songwriters or music producers in their craft. Can you imagine what the music world would be like?
What we are doing here in Writer's Outlet is art. Writing is art. If you haven't taken the time to look in our library, go take a look. We have a large number of poets amongst us who express themselves poetically in various styles. Some write in rhymes, some write in very stylishly poetic words, and some write stories in their poems. How amazing is that?!
Then we have the bloggers who write about all kinds of topics and subjects on practically anything and everything. From politics to lifestyle to relationship to self help to motivation, the bloggers have plenty to say. I personally love reading blogs simply because I love the way bloggers express themselves.
Jared understands the need for freedom in writing and expression. He doesn't put any restrictions on anyone in terms of creativity. The only thing he asks is for all of us to be respectful towards one another. Anyone with proper upbringing would know how to be respectful so by right we should all know how to conduct ourselves. He created this app as a platform for people like you and I to feel free to express ourselves creatively. Go crazy with your stories, go deep with your poems. "Write as little or as much as you want," he said. Let it be written.
At the end of the day, we are all artists in our own right. We write with passion. There is no right or wrong way to express ourselves creatively. Not in here. In here, we are free to write what we want, how we want, whenever we want. So write freely. Feel free. Be free.
