I stood there, my body covered in blood, cuts, and bruises. The light breeze blew my hair slightly as I struggled to keep my eyes open. I sat on the hood of my 1970 Plymouth Hemi Cuda, staring at the horizon. The sunset was so beautiful and calming. It almost makes me forget about the horrors I’m facing. It has been forever since the last time I watched the sunset and I can definitely say I missed its beauty. It makes me feel like there’s still hope in the world.
“Do you mind some company?” I heard a familiar voice ask. Turning my head to the right, I saw Winston walking my way. “Of course not. How’s your face?” I asked, never taking my eyes off of him. “Ah, ya’ know, still bleeding and shit.” He responded with a joking tone.
I gave a small smile as he sat next to me on the hood of my car. “So what’s our next move?” Winston asked turning his gaze to the sunset. “You’re not coming next time. It’s bad enough you followed me into this one.” I said bluntly and watch him turn to face me. “Oh no, you’re stuck with me now.” He said as a smile formed on his lips. With an irritated sigh I looked back at the sunset.
‘Ugh, why won’t he just listen to me. I don’t want him to get hurt even more or worse.’ I thought and noticed out of the corner of my eye he stared at me. “Huh, you can really see your freckles in this lighting. They’re really cute.” Winston mumbled and slowly rested his hand on top of mine. I sat there almost as if I was frozen in time. I couldn’t believe he just said that to me of all people. “Thanks.” I said quietly a light blush swiping across my cheeks.
Winston’s eyes then narrowed and he pursed his lips before saying “What are you going to tell you folks?”. I sat in silence for a few moments as I removed my hand from under Winston’s, placing it on his right cheek. “Not sure, but I’ll make something up.” I said a large smile forming on my lips. I watched as Winston’s face turned a bright red and he turned away. I pushed myself off the hood of the car and stood in front of Winston with a relaxed look on my face.
“We might die, if that’s okay with you.” I said bluntly grabbing his hands in mine. “I’m okay with that, as long as you’re with me.” Winston mumbled giving my hands a firm squeeze. I swear the whole world could hear how hard my heart was beating.
