They were right when they said that your life passes before your eyes as you die.  That night, that fateful night, began as any other, with him watching TV and her across the country, studying for an upcoming test.  These siblings had a tight bond, and the distance pained them.  That night, her boyfriend had visited her, but only to say that it was over.  She was still sobbing when she picked up the phone to call the only person she could, her brother.  They talked all night and had agreed that he would drive up to see her that morning.  So he did.  He drove as fast as he could, the rain slapping hard at his windshield.  He hadn't realized how slippery the roads were, hadn't seen the headlights of the oncoming car until it was too late.  The death was instant, and the only thing on his mind was her.  See, she was his whole life, the only thing he had worked hard to keep safe.  So they were right, in a wrong sort of way.
