I met death face to face... He was waiting for me that night, I was sitting behind the counter I got kind of hungry so I bought some doughnuts for myself I started eating them as I shoved another one in my mouth I looked out the window near the register there was 1 car out there it looked black from where I was standing but my eyesight isn't very good so I couldn't tell so I just ignored it. I never really liked working there I've been looking for a job since the robbery next door at the liquor store I had an interview today and I think it went well I guess I'll find out later. I threw the trash away for my doughnuts and I still had another one in my hand I looked out the window again and I felt a bit relieved then I realized someone was in the store I didn't notice he walked in he didn't look to suspicious so I ate my last doughnut I looked at the cameras and noticed the man shoving things in his pockets so I waited till he came up to the register then I confronted him I asked him to put everything back or I will contact the police he said he wasn't putting anything back I pulled out my phone and he drew a gun I was standing there at gun point I was frozen I had no clue what to do he said "the money... In the bag NOW!" I opened the register and started filling the bag with money I hesitated but I kept going not wanting to get shot I had a bat right below the register after I told him all the money was in the bag I told him there was a safe under the desk let me open it I grabbed the bat and popped up real quick I hit him in the shoulder I think I broke it because I heard a loud crack he shot me in the hip not sure exactly where but I went down and he ran out with the money someone came in shortly after not knowing what happened i heard the bell for the door ring and I tried yelling for help barley anything came out. they heard me thankfully and called the police and ambulance I was laying there not being able to move for about 15 min I fell asleep not knowing when exactly. I woke up being rushed into the hospital and bright lights in my eyes they started yelling at other doctors to get a surgeon to remove the bullet it took about 30 minutes to remove but it was pretty deep  it was only a 9mm bullet I fell back asleep. I woke up in a hospital bed with a police officer and some other person I didn't know the police officer asked me some questions about what happened and if I knew what he looked like I told him the story and what I remember of his face then the officer left. I gave an odd look to that other person I asked who they where she said her name was Summer I was still kinda lost on why she was there then I remembered she was the one who called the police and helped me I thanked her she told me I was lucky to be alive and then I thanked her again for letting me live in this world even though I probably didn't deserve it. I cheated death I started crying because I didn't think I was going to live that night I told summer that I owed her my life and if she ever needs anything she can ask and she said " I do need something Isaiah" and she grew a little smile. She said " I need you to stay alive" I smiled at her and told her I will. She said I need rest so I went back to sleep I woke up the next morning and she was still there I was surprised I asked if she was ok and she said yeah "did you sleep last night?" I asked "barley" I frowned "why'd you stay with me?" "To make sure you were safe" "Don't burden yourself with me" " I'm not, your now my friend your not a burden" I coughed a bit "thanks." I got out of the hospital a few days later I quit my job at the gas station and got another job as a mechanic and it paid very well...I even moved into a house with summer after a few years I proposed to her and we got married and lived a happy life we have 2 kids now and live in Missouri and life is good... Hopefully it stays that way
