A Soft moan was heard in the otherwise quiet house. It was not a moan of pleasure, rather one of fright. Jacob moved quietly, not wanting to disturb any one or thing who resided in the house. He had only lived here a few months now and didn't want to mess anything up. Slipping down the stairs towards the sounds of the moaning he hugged the walls, afraid to be seen but wanting to know what was going on. He was only 15 but bigger for his age. Most thought he was way older. Truth, he was scared to be in the night. Darkness his things. He came now to the living room where the sounds seemed to be coming from. His eyes were already adjusted to the light so he had no trouble seeing what he did not want to see. Jackie was laying on her stomach crying softly while Mr. Johnson was laying on her back grunting. Jacob tried to control his rage. He tried really hard. It was Jackie though, he had sworn nothing would hurt her. He burst into the living room and used all his strength to shove the surprised Mr. Johnson off Jackie. He stumbled backwards and fell hard onto the floor. His head, as it struck the ground, made a wet thunk noise. He did not move at all. Jackie meanwhile was scrambling to stand up and move away, right into Jacobs waiting arms. Easily Jacob lifted her and carried her down the hall but not up the stairs. Instead, he carried her out the door. He wanted to get away now. Jackie stopped him by softly whispering "Jacob, we can't leave. We have to go back. Tell them what happened. Oh god it hurts Jacob." She started crying louder now as he turned and walked back in. By now Mrs. Johnson was up and had seen her husband lying on the floor with blood coming from his head. When she saw the battered and bruised form of Jackie she instinctively knew what had happened. Mrs. Johnson gingerly took Jackie into her arms and helped her to the couch. After she sat her down she covered up the body of her dead husband and quietly cursed him. She sat beside Jackie as she dialed the police. All the while Jacob stood by the door, unsure of what to do. A moment passed and Mrs. Johnson told him "Run Jacob. Don't come back. Run." He ran, forever to hide in a darkness he hated.
