Voices

“There it is again; the voices inside my head. I don’t even understand what they’re talking about.”, the boy said to himself as he walked through the green meadow

The boy stared in awe at everything. Everywhere he look are dazzling wild flowers, fruit bearing trees, butterflies and rabbits, and a cascade of mountains. This place is straight out from a fantasy book. The boy saw a little house from afar; he slowly walked towards it still admiring the paradise like place. He doesn’t remember anything before his arrival here. He doesn’t even remember his own name.

A beautiful lady came out of the small house and motioned him to come near her. He walked a little faster, afraid to let the lady wait longer. When he reached her, he noticed that the house is a bit out of place. Like a tornado just passed by.

 “How did you get here?”, the lady smiled

“I don’t know. I don’t remember anything”, he answered with full honesty

“When are you coming back home?”, she asked

“I don’t know where home is and I like it here. It’s calm and beautiful.”, he answered

“Do you want to stay here? You can live with us forever”, the lady offered

The boy looked around him again. Us? Where are the others? He thought.

“Where are the others?”, he finally asked

“They’re playing beyond the mountains. You’ll love it here. There are many children like you.”, she smiled

The way this lady smiled reminds him of someone. She feels so warm, kind, and trustworthy too. The boy finally agreed and the lady held out her hand to him. When he was about to grab it, he heard it again. The mysterious voice…

“Kevin, please come back.”

“Don’t let them get you, Kevin. Fight them.”

Kevin? That’s my name. Who are they? Who’s this lady in front of me? Fight who? He thought.

“Let’s go, Kevin. What are you waiting for?”, the lady said

“How do you know my name? Who are you?”, he asked carefully stepping away from the woman

“I know everyone and yet I don’t have a name. You’ll be the one who will decide what my name will be. You can stay with us forever, Kevin. All you have to do is say yes and grab my hand”, she said stepping closer to him

“Kevin, we love you”

“Stay with us forever”, the lady said again

“Be strong, Kevin.”

“Take my hand and let’s go”, she insisted

“Kevin, wake up”

“Don’t listen to the voices, Kevin. Come with me”, the lady almost grabbed him

There are many voices speaking in his head. If only he remember who he is... He’s tired of hearing these voices, he’s done trying to remember everything, he’s just tired and wanted to rest in this paradise, and so he grabbed the lady’s hand. As soon as they touched each other, the voices slowly faded. As soon as they touched, the woman’s beautiful face crumbled together with the paradise.  Fear and panic took over his mind. The paradise was replaced by a nightmare… a never-ending nightmare. Screams and wailings from the damned are all over the place, piercing the boy’s ear and heart.

He turned to look at the lady and saw a demon; fangs, wrinkled skin, hungry eyes, and leathery wings.

“Who are you?”, he shivered

The demon bared her fangs and said, “I have no name. But you created me.”

The boy screamed and everything went silent. He then realized that the voices he kept hearing in the paradise also vanished.

At that same moment, two parents lost their son to schizophrenia.
