The police took the man away. It took two of them to put him in the white van. He kicked out and cursed, blaming it on somebody else that had 'bribed him'. The police rolled their eyes and locked the back doors of the van, muffling the persistent cries of the guilty shooter.

"Sonny, I know it's been such a hard day, but can you tell us what happened, exactly?" one of the police officers was suddenly standing beside me, a notepad in his strong palms.

"I'm... Not sure what you mean..." I stammered, stepping backwards. The man just stepped forwards, and asked me again and again, but I didn't know why he wanted me to describe it to him. What was I meant to say? He was in my face by then, and I felt the tears filling my eyes.

"Hey! Paul!" a tall woman wearing a slightly different shade of uniform to the rest, but still wearing the badge and logo, jogged over to me and the officer, "Officer P. Brown, I will handle it from here."

I stepped back, but the woman took my hand, "Hey, little dude. I'm Officer Andrien. You can call me Jewel, as that's my first name. What's yours?"

I relaxed a little, "Andrew Corn."

"Great. Hi Andrew. Can I just ask you about the man that and the gun?" Jewel smiled at me and knelt down, she had a pretty face... I like the way that she held my hand and was softly asking me questions.

"Yes," I smiled and sat down, cross legged.

Jewel smiled and adjusted her hat, "Okay. Did he threaten you?"

I suddenly realised how babyish I had sounded and sat up straighter. She thought I was a baby. Well, I wasn't! "No, well he said it was the end, but when the sirens came into earshot, he started to falter and I was pretty sure that he was bluffing the whole time."

Nodding, Jewel called a woman who was standing by my front door over and handed her a notepad, then turned to me, "Your mum is fine, your dad just need to be patched up by a paramedic, Andrew. You were very brave, by the way."

The other woman smiled at me and and lead me into the kitchen, "Do you go to any clubs after school?" she asked.

I shook my head, "Not since mum got I'll, which was just when I had started football and school. I dedicate my life to her now, like she did mine."

The woman nodded and wrote that down, then looked back up at me, "How would you like to start football?" she smiled and added, "Your mum could have a personal carer. It would cost your dad half the price for the carer and teh football is only five pounds per week."

I gasped. I could do footy and help mum? It sounded brilliant.

"Really?" I cried, my smile growing wider than any smile is ever known before.

The woman nodded, "Yes, your dad needs to look after you, but I find that helping that get along will be the right thing to do." I had no idea what that meant, but I knew that I was going to football! I leapt up and hugged the woman. She hugged me back, laughing.

I was so pleased. I was going to play football!
