A Poem About..Apples Read Count : 49

Today I rested beneath an Apple tree.
I looked up longingly, only to see.
The Apple I wanted was out of reach
Even should I stand, it did retreat.
The rest of the apples were easy to grab
But compared to that one they all were to drab.
It was shiny red with leaves of forest green.
Another Apple like it would never be seen.
I could have taken one from a lower height
But instead Im waiting for the time to be right.
As the others fall all in my yard
My mouth waters, patience is hard.
It finally falls but not onto land.
Im there to catch it, letting it fall securely in my hand.
I look ot over, and to my dismay
The outside is a cover, a game, a play!
For all around the back of the fruit
It was ripped and bruised, and brown from base to shoot.
I smile with glee as I take it inside
No worry at all, this Apple is now my pride.
I dont care about it being too ripe, or about being bitten by worms, not once but thrice.
My patients has won out and Ive paid my price.
I set it on my mantle, not a prize, but a treasure!
Ill tell the story of me and my Apple to my children's children's children...forever and ever
