Anthony ran like the wind through the darkness of night. His eyes ever looking up into the beautiful sky. His love had gone to the heavens so he was alone.

His heart hurt as he ran to stand on what was their cliff. Looking up he searches the sky until he sees them. Shooting stars. They are brilliant from this perspective.

Quietly he sits down and remembers the last conversation he had with her on this very hill.

"Anthony?"

"Yes beloved?"

"When I die promise me one thing."

"Okay beloved. I shall."

Anthony knew she was sick but hated thinking on her short time. They had been so long friends and life partners that he could not imagine a world without her in it.

"Anthony, promise me you will remember me."

"How could I forget thee??"

"Anthony, please!"

"I swear Elspeth, I shall."

Her smile touched him deeply even as her hand reached up and touched his cheek. Tears stung her eyes but she held them back. Anthony kissed her softly and pulled her into his embrace. She felt so good in his arms. He did not want to let her go.

"Anthony, Oh anthony look!"

She was pointing up so he looked and witnessed the sky burning with shooting stars! His eyes marveled at them as he held her close to him and whispered

"Elspeth, I will love you until all the stars burn out or I see you again. Whichever comes first."

They held each other on the cliff for a moment more before she spoke again

"Anthony, when I go, look to the heavens and when you see a star flash brightly, you will know that I am home."

Months had passed since that talk and she lay in a hospital bed looking out the window. Night had fallen so all was still. All was quiet. Anthony had sat beside her, holding her hand. He heard her whisper

"Look to the skies my love..."

Anthony did not have to look at her to know she was gone. He bowed his head and choked back his tears. Her family came and embraced her as he quietly left.

Now, here he was. Only a day before her funeral, staring at the skies from their cliff. His eyes staring as the sky itself seemed to weep once more as it had done that night. For a moment he felt her beside him so he turned his head and looked. Her face glowed with angelic light as she pointed to the sky. In a flash, a star burned bright. She was home.

Standing up on the edge of the cliff he stares up and whispers

"Elspeth, I love you."

He heard her whisper

"Anthony, always."
