Living in this small town, you'd never know the people carried a dark secret. Everyone's so full of happy, and positive energy. When they walk past you, they'll smile ear to ear.
Unless, of course, you're not from around here. Then they pretend to be friendly in your face, but when you walk away, they whisper behind your back.
I learned that the people can turn against you in the blink of an eye. One warm spring day as we all were sleeping in, a mob of people came knocking on our door. I was the first to hear it, so I got up and went to see who it was.
" Look there's the witch now," cried a woman in the back.
The same woman that I'd buy groceries from everyday.
Another woman grabbed me by my hair and threw me on the ground, while a group of them went into my home and dragged my husband and son out to lay beside me.
       " What's going on," I asked.
" You don't go to church," a man said," celebrate Christmas."
" Or dress like us," another said," You're Abad for this community."
        " Fine," I said," We'll just leave."
         " That's not good enough."
You'll be an outcast everywhere you go," another said," We must put a end to your evil."
Two men grabbed me, and two grabbed my husband and dragged us over to a tall tree in our front yard. They flung two ropes over a tree limb and wrapped our knecks with a noose.
" Your son will be taken care of," a man, dressed in black attire said," but you two are charged with devil worship and will hang until you are dead. Any last words?"
" You will pay for this," my husband said as two men pulled on his noose and he choked to death.
" I love you bubby," I said," don't forget us."
" I'm coming for you," I screamed as they pulled on my noose," I'm coming for all of you."
When they were sure we were dead, they let our bodies fall to the ground. Some townsfolk went to shovel our graves, but the mayor shook his head and said," They're not in God's favor to receive a burial. Let the animals of the forest have them.
