Oftentimes, we fail to remember the things we should be grateful for. It's human nature and we're all guilty of it at some point.

Typically, we tend to focus on our misfortunes, rather than counting our blessings. We take life for granted, forget how to live life to the fullest, as we should; with peace, love and contentment.

We shouldn't have to face a critical, life-threatening dilemma to discern and appreciate what we have. They say the past is full of tears and the future is full of fears. I can sympathize. However, in the now, I've learned to live in the present by making the best of each day with the things in life that matter the most to me. It's worked wonders for me and I would recommend anyone to incorporate this strategy and put it into practice. When we stop dwelling on the past, it brings peace to our minds, as well as our souls.

The same goes for the future,  we tend to be consumed by what should or should not happen, failing to realize that it's out of our control. The happiest souls make it a point to live in the present. Only then can we truly start to notice the things and appreciate what we have. Thanks to the fabulous world of technology and social media, many of us have forgotten to recognize our surroundings. We notice what's displayed on our screens far more than what surrounds us. Consequently, we lose sight of what's important; the people we love, the work we do, and the things we have. Even the simple chirp of a bird is a blessing because we are unable to hear something that simple.

Make it a habit to be conscious of the simple things, the running water from your faucets, the food  you consume, and the clothes on your back. Then you'll notice the bigger things, like your family, your houses, cars, careers, ect. Then immerse yourself in every moment of your life, you'll have more than most can only dream of having. You wouldn't enjoy any of these blessings if they were taken away from you. Remember that every single person, relationship, or material object takes the investment of time, effort, and hard work to be formulated. Helping others will make you understand that there's so much to be grateful for. Get in touch with your altruistic side and give back to society. That's what helps me immensely, and that doesn't mean offering to help charities, but it's nice when you can. You should also help your family, friends or even a stranger.

With that being said, you will realize that you're lucky to be able to serve others in need, but more rewarding than that, you will be left with a  feeling that will make you see beyond yourself and your materialistic desires. That is one of the greatest gifts that you will ever receive.
