Charlie's Devotion.

There once was a young girl, maybe 8 years old. She was always sickly and frail, none of the other village children would play with this girl. Not out of hate or prejudice, but simply because she could not keep up with their energetic and healthy bodies. So as a result this girl was always alone..

One day the girls parents had brought home an adorable, little puppy. This puppy was to be called "Charlie" ,and Charlie became the young girls best friend in the whole world. She would spend all her time with Charlie and teach him lots of tricks. And Charlie loved this little girl. The Best trick Charlie knew was to "wait", she could tell Charlie to wait with a biscuit on his nose and he wouldn't move for anything! Until she said it was ok.

One day the young girl was feeling much better and decided to take Charlie for a walk around the village. While all the children watched the girl walk by with this cute, little, dog that was Charlie. Their eyes grew wide and lit up with excitement! They all ran over to the young girl and wanted to play with her and Charlie. The young girl became so happy, she realized she was no longer lonely. She had lots of friends.

Slowly the girl stopped bringing Charlie to see her new friends altogether, and told him to "wait" inside the house while he was by the front door. She shut the door and went off with her friends. After a few months went by the girls parents were arguing one night. Her father had been laid off, and mother didn't work so they were loosing their home. And eventually were forced to be on the streets for a while before a family member would offer to take them in a few villages over.

The day they were leaving the young girl took Charlie for one more walk. She grabbed his leash and said "Come Charlie". Charlie looked as excited as ever as he wagged his short, stubby, tail, and did circles in front of her. She took Charlie to the village park sat him down and said the words...

 "Wait Charlie".

About to turn away she gave Charlie one last glance, with tears forming in her eyes... Charlie continued to sit, staring at his owner; as she turned then started to walk away. As she whispered, "I'm sorry" under her breath.

And then left..
