The Fire
As the match fell onto the hay, the barn lit up in flames. Only thirteen year old, Alice, was home to witness it all. Her father had been very upset with mother. She understood that he was mad, but he could have killed her. He doesn’t know that she saw him do it. But she knows what she saw.
Five Years Ago
Mother and Father fought in the kitchen. Little eight year old Alice, had nowhere to go. She sat in the closet listening to the rambunctious wailing of her parents. Terror filled her eyes as she heard her Father slap her Mother. Alice felt it in her soul. She clutched the heart necklace with the picture of their family inside. She prayed that things could be normal. But there was nothing that she could do.

“SLAM” Alice awoke to the emphatic sound of a door slamming. She quivered before she dashed to her window to view who was leaving. It was Mother. But why was she abandoning her daughter and husband? Alice rapidly darted down the stairs. She saw her lugubrious father wistfully sitting in the corner. She felt oblivious to the situation. She escorted herself back upstairs. About an hour later, she was dreaming beneath the silk sheets.

Her mother returned the next day, everything seemed peachy. Alice knew that her family was now in tact. She had hope for the future. Little did she know she would see the future melt before her eyes five years later.
Now
Alice listened to the screeching of her mother’s car leave the driveway. Once again Alice watched her mother leave without her. Alice trotted down stairs. Her father was in the barn. As she slumped out the door, Alice looked to her left. Her world fell to pieces within seconds.

Alice saw her father in the barn. But only seconds later did she see the burst of fire that changed everything. Her father had thrown a match into the hay. Alice was now an orphan. She was unknowing of her mother's reappearance. As Alice watched her father burst into flames then fall to ashes, her heart started to break. She fell to her knees, out of breath.

“BEEP, BEEP, BEEP” An alarm clock rang by Alice’s bed. She was so happy and grateful for her loving family. She made sure they knew it by giving her mother and father a long note explaining her dream. She now helps out around the house all time, she never argues with her parents, and she always appreciate her parents. Father especially.
