It was the night before Halloween and loud crashing echoed around the house. A storm was raging violently outside. Becky Dean nestled in her chair by the fireplace, fell asleep while reading a book. She dreamt of the tales within the pages till they were interrupted by the sharp doorbell sound. Becky stirred and blinked her eyes opened. She gazed at the door, as if a mere look could answer it. The doorbell rang again. She sighed, stretched and got up out of the chair. Making her way to the door, Becky tighten the rope around her robe knowing the cold wind that would intrude through her doorway. She reached for the knob and eased the door a crack to peak out. A young girl, perhaps six or seven, stood on the stoop in ragged dress and a simple paper mask. At her feet, sat a small cute dog. The girl in a sweet innocent voice asked, "Ain't you got no candy?" Becky baffled, wondered why this child was trick or treating the night before halloween at almost two a.m. and out in this terrible storm. "Halloween is tomorrow, do your parents know you are out?" Becky asked in return. Sobbing the little girl responded, "I had no daddy and mommy ran away. Andy and I are alone. Ain't you got no gingerbread?" In the back of Becky's mind she thought that gingerbread was an odd thing to ask for. But her heart ached at the thought this poor girl was all alone. Becky opened the door wider and smiled. "Do you and your friend want to come in? The little girl stepped through the threshold and the dog followed. Once inside, the wet dog tried to shake itself dry. The girl seemed to be examining her surroundings. Becky was thinking about what kind of sweets she had in the house for the young girl. "I don't get trick or treaters often, so i usually don't buy candy. Do you want me to make you some cookies?" Becky looked upon the child's mask, all she could see of the young girl's face was her eyes. The young girl asked again, "Ain't you got no gingerbread?" Becky replied, "Sorry, no. I don't usually eat gingerbread. Is that your favorite?" The girl's only response was, "Mmmmm" Becky bent down to the girl's level. She was wanting to see the girl's face. Becky reached out to the mask and the young girl backed out of the way. Becky then said, "Cmon, you can't eat any thing with that mask on." The girl then stepped forward back into reaching range of Becky. Gently, She lifted off the young girl's mask and then let out a shreik. The mouth was filled with sharp jagged teeth and the nose was only two small openings. Even with barely a nose, the creature started sniffing and her eyes grew wide. In the next instance, the creature jumped Becky and bit deep into her throat, tearing away a large piece of flesh. As Becky was choking on the blood and quickly dying, the creature swallowed the chunk and in the same sweet voice declared, "Taste like gingerbread."
