A green bud I was on a slender twig,
The sun opened me with a loving touch;
Soft and silky I fluttered in the wind,
Clouds floated gaily over my green couch.

As Nature's cook I nurtured this world,
My canopy shaded your bare heads;
You pull, pluck and tear me at your whim
Oh! where your greed and cruelty leads.

Detached by time from my mother tree
I lie on your path wreathing in pain;
Your foot squeezes out my last blood drop
Oblivious you revel over your gain.
