Title goes here, what should it be? Comment! Odd beginnings They come at times of dark, launching us into a world we have not yet seen or known, except me… I'm Elicia. When no one is expecting them, they come, they know I'm here, they want me to give them what they want, but that is not going to happen. Because I'll be prepared, even if it means taking strength… and I sense the perfect victim. Why-me-why-me-why-meeee?! Mom is going to be so pissed when I get back. ‘Why were you in the woods anyway Tenral?’ “Crud!” I cry as soon I trip over a log. A snarl, getting closer… “Nice doggy?” I screech as it lunges, I curl into a ball, just now realizing how dumb I feel for how old I actually am, a teen. But a blinding light stops the snarling wolf from attacking, instead making it dart away, searching for its prey. I look up, to make out the figure of a person, before a searing pain hits me.. Then everything goes dark. “Interesting, a kid my age running through the forest in the black of night? My, oh my have things changed.” I say, almost sounding like an old lady. I drag the boy over to the tree that I found and set up my camp by. A simple knot and this puny thing won't be able to escape, I don't even think he is worthy of being my victim! I tie him up, surprised to see him starting to awake already, I literally just hit him and tied him up! He must be stronger than I thought… “How old do you think I am?” The boy said, clearly wide awake now, “Seventeen, like me" I say as I jump, startled by his voice, Seriously, how is he so AWAKE? How did he wake up so fast? Strange... Explanations Who is SHE? I look down to find ropes binding me to a thick tree, “What, why- what did you do to me?” I ask, finding myself stuttering. “You don't get to ask the questions. I do" The girl says “Why are you out here?” “Well, right now because you tied me to a tree.” I say not thinking, that earned me a slap across the face by the girl. “Now why were you out here?” “I was hiding from my friend…” “Why?” “Well, he- it's embarrassing…” The ropes had tightened and I can barely breathe now, Why-me-why-me-why-me? “He was trying to set me up on a blind date so I ran.” I wheeze, then the ropes slack around me as I feel the cold breeze on my forehead, and I hear the girl facepalm at my dumbness, as I watch her grab a bandana and a knife. Uh-oh. I'll finally get some strength back, I think to myself as I wipe my knife on the bandana, I can't help but look up at the boy and smile an evil smile. He looks back at me fearfully, I look at the shine of my knife with the glow of the fire, I am walking over there when I hear soft sobs, gentle ones, sobs that show sorrow for others. I finish walking over to him and squat down, I turn his head towards me roughly. He has water lines from where he was crying, “What is your name?” I ask “Tenral.” he whispers hoarsely, he looks me in the eye. “You?” Should I? “Elicia" Tenral opens his mouth to say something else and that's when I strike. Quickly shoving the middle piece of bandana in his mouth and tying it on the other side of his head. Tears drip down his cheek as I raise the knife to his neck. Then a muffled scream. She cut me! She cut me… Oww… I watch Elicia smile wide, showing me perfect white teeth, as she watches my blood drip from her knife and then she punches me with her other hand into my temple. Then everything fell into darkness. It’s been about 15 minutes since I wiped him out and he's already awake, and yelling. I walk over “You think someone's gonna come for you? Well accept the truth dip-wit, not on my watch.” I kick him in the gut and he groans, I'm looking at my handy work when a deer hops over a bush and into my camp If I eat tonight, I'll be stronger, but I'll give away my spot… I decide to let the deer pass. I look back over to Tenral who seems to have given up and is sleeping, I loosen the bonds a bit because I feel bad about his embarrassing situation. Then I hit the hay on my makeshift bed I just woke up again and I'm tied up in a different position, not by much, just my feet are closer to me. It's so cold. But now I have some strength and time since she is not here, I manage to stand up and out of the bonds I'm free. I feel like I should run away but I want revenge, so I take the bandana and Elicia’s knife and I walk to where she lay on a bunch of leaves and pine needles. Damn she is HOT. Black hair, and I'm pretty sure she has green eyes, nd her skin is so smooth. I'm about to reach out but I stop, you know why you're still here Tenral. Very carefully I pick her up, surprised that I'm touching a girl, and also the fact she isn't up and cutting the rest of my head off. I slip her into where I was and she still isn't up, so I tie her feet together and tighten the bonds around her chest, I'm about to try and put a gag on her but I stop thinking that I'm lucky I got this far. Now I can leave, but something draws me back, the feeling of, power. It shocks me and I kinda want to run from it but it lures me to stay. So I do, and take a nap where she lay before. I'm ready to wipe pine needles off me but I can't move. I open my eyes to find Tenral laying where I should be, not asleep, but shining my knife on the bandana. “So do you want to explain this or what?” I say plainly. He jumps to my voice but gets up like nothing happened. “Ahh, you're awake now I see. How did you sleep?” Where is the fearful boy I caught last night? “Pretty damn well, although you are going to have to help me out of these bonds.” I've got to act helpless so he will set me free. I can't escape by myself for these ropes are the ones with the moss on them, If I fight myself out of these I'll trigger the magical reaction then I won't be able to move for at least three and a half hours. Who knows what he will do to me during that time. Why moss? Out of all the things in the world, magic and magical beings are affected by moss! The girl that tied me up and sliced my throat is now in my bonds basically begging me to free her, yet she is staying as close to the tree as she can, and not struggling. Then I see it, moss, I know some people start sneezing when they are near it, but she acts like if she touches it she is going to faint or die. Interesting Info. I walk over and kneel, and I just stare at Elica like I have all the time in the world, when I finally realize what I'm doing she is staring back. “Why did you do this?” I point to my gnarly looking cut. She looks away, I pull her head to face me “Why?” She closes her eyes. “Stop, please, why?” She gazes at me with her sea-green eyes, with golden flecks in them, tears escaping. “You won't understand.” Elicia sobs “I will sit here, just, tell me! I don't want to seem rude, but then again you cut me. Why?” She stares at me as if questioning if she could trust me then begins. “There is a lot to say, so hold on,” He nods and I continue: “Magic is a real thing, not something you just hear about or fake on a street corner. Once you learn you can't forget, and making mistakes is a lot different with magic. There are these people, that want everyone's special spell, that's a spell you keep to yourself and show no others unless you have to or know they can be trusted. They caught all of us magicians, with this moss and spells, and if we try to get out, it rubs against us and we pass out for a while, and then you would be back to being tied up. You don't understand, it hurts, especially when your the last one there…” I'm not done but I start crying, and he reaches out and wipes my tears, “Th-Thanks.” I stutter, he nods again but his hand doesn't leave and strangely I'm fine with that. “The things they do, it's horrible, they torture you, they tortured me... They want all power, so they can do what they wish with the magicians of our world and the humans, I… please get me out of this, I don't care if you tie me up again, just, the moss, it stings. Bad. I'm fumbling with the ropes, I get them off of her, but she just sits there stunned. I wondered if it was too late and she already passed out, “How does it hurt?” I ask “It feels like you're being burned and stabbed at the same time, then your heart beats too fast and we pass out.” She still stares blankly. “Also, who are they?” “Tylan and Etricia” she whispers “And, I hurt you because that gives me strength, even that one little cut gives me power” I sit next to her. “How do you do that without feeling bad?” “It's in our blood.” She responds, as I secretly take her in, startling green eyes, black hair in a cascade down her back, smooth skin, tight black shirt, and tight black capris, black socks and black/gray/dark blue tennis shoes, clutching her silver knife that had a strange imprint, a T and and an E intertwined?I was right, she is HOT, but.. I don't like the intertwining... especially if she is already special to someone... “Well what should I do before I leave?” I ask, Elicia looks at me and then says “Too late, now you can't leave.” Understanding “Tenral!” I shout, chasing after him through the woods toward civilization, “I'm not staying in the woods with you! You're scary and I have friends and family who will be wondering where I was last night! Oh, and also the rest of my life!” He shouts back. Of course, he trips about a minute after that, and I catch up to him. “Why do I have to stay?” Tenral asks, trembling, trying to backup as I approach. “You'll ruin everything! Even for the short amount of time I've seen you, you're going to tell everyone about the crazy teenager that lives in the woods!” I respond, as I watch Tenral finding himself cornered in between a couple of trees. “Fine! I won't tell anybody! Just let me go home!” “It's not as easy as that,” “Then explain to me, Elicia.” “You're going to confuse everybody! Then they will come searching for us and I'm quite sure you don't want your friends and family getting caught along with the rest of your kind because you told them about some crazy girl.” She says, I think about it. “Well… umm… ok, but I want to see my family, can I do that?” I ask. “I'm not letting you go alone, I don't trust you!” She shouts, closing me into the corner “Ok, ok but, it's going to be awkward for you.” I yell back “What do you mean? Can't I just be a friend coming over?” I think carefully on how I'm about to say the next sentence. “Well, I- I have no friends that happen to be girls…” She shifts uncomfortably “and no girl has ever came over, so…” I then say the next words very carefully “So you have to act as my girlfriend.” “Are you serious?” I ask, flabbergasted. Then I look at him, brown eyes, brown hair, sharp nose, khakis, black shirt, and a jean jacket over that. He must have saw me, because he asks “Do you need something or are we gonna start going?” Tenral then looks me up and down, before he gets up, walks toward me, and tries to grab my hand. “What's that for?” I half screech “We might as well start practicing!” Tenral responds, then grabs my hand and starts walking. I didn't want to practice, I wanted to hold her hand. It was awkward silence the whole walk there, but before we knew it we were at my house. “Ok, my parents will probably talk a lot, I just want to be here long enough to say I'm going to be gone for a bit.” “Umm, so how do I have to act?” Elicia asks “Well, like I said before, my girlfriend.” I kind of do a half smile and I really hope she didn't notice “So- you'll figure it out.” I then open the door “Ma, Pa, I'm home!” I yell into the house “Tenral?” Ma questions “Son, where were you last night?” Pa booms before marching right to the doorway “And who is this?” He gestures to Elicia “Oh my, a lady?” Ma says, she looks at me and then whispers into Elicia’s ear, “Is he blackmailing you?” Elicia starts laughing, “Believe it or not, the answer is a no!” I smile at her, “Ma, Pa? I'm doing a camping thing, so I'm not going to be here the next couple of days…” Pa frowns, “You should of told us! What if you didn't stop at home with your little girlfriend?” Elicia shivers “We wouldn't know where you were!” “Oh dear, I don't think it's that bad, Tenral needs his own time and space you know.” Ma tells Pa “Elicia, come with me upstairs really quick, I just have grab a couple pairs of clothes. It'll be quick!” I say eagerly. We then run upstairs to prevent any more yelling from Pa. I'm upstairs with Tenral now, he said he's going to get a couple pairs of clothes but all he does is grab a bag and claims that it has clothes in it. There is three things I like about his home, his mother who has quite the sense of humor, the look of the interior, which has a cozy feeling instead of a modern one, and then the smell, which is warm with the smell of citrus and fresh bread. I run down the stairs with him, and we’re about to reach the front door when Tenral’s dad sees us and stomps over here “What is that?” He snarls, pointing at Tenral’s neck “Oh my, surely, surely-" Tenral’s ma says sneaking up on our situation “Did you do this?” He yells at me, he stalks closer and soon I'm bumping into a table with no place left to go “Did you?” Then Tenral jumps in front of me, stretching his arms wide as if to hide me “Whoa whoa, let's not jump to conclusions!” He lets out a struggled laugh, I want to teleport us out of this situation but I don't have enough strength, nor would I use magic in front of a human. He grabs Tenral by the arm with one of his, and mine with his free one. The next thing I know I'm being pulled up the stairs along with Tenral, then were thrown into a room, most likely Tenral’s, seeing the messiness. “I'm calling the police,” His Pa shouts then he slams the door on us, Tenral reaches for the knob to leave, only to find that we had been trapped in here. “Well, crap.” I say, then I look to where my window is, “Aha!” “What is it?” Elicia whispers, pulling herself off my messy floor. “Tell me it's something to help us along, will ya?” “My window, come here I'll help you out.” I smirk, to earn myself a scowl from Elicia. I'm pretty sure that I'm going to get slapped later. She hops out of the window and then I follow, we're balancing on the rooftop and I'm wondering if I should make a move on her, but I decide that since we are escaping a room we were locked in, running from the cops, AND never coming back… I choose no. “That's sure gonna be helpful." Elicia whispers as she breaks off a rose from the plants in the side-yard and folds it within her hair. “Go go GO!” I whisper-yell, amazed she plucked the rose off in mid-air as we jumped off the side of the house. Then we are in the clear and running back into the woods, and I am quite happy to see that everything is where it was when we left. “Bravo! You didn't trip a single dang time when we ran!” Elicia celebrates, can't helping myself, I smile. “Thanks miss warrior, now why did you pick a rose?” I ask, expecting a simple reason. Although, I can't stop my mind from wandering to Elicia and I doing the tango with the rose. “How else are we going to see if you can do magic?” She responds, I gulp at the idea of me doing magic, and my knees buckle. I fall to the ground in a heap, “I guess we'll do magic tomorrow!” Elicia recites, I realize why my knees buckle, it's because we jumped off a two story house. “I'm an idiot.” I admit “You just now realize that. Huh.” stated Elicia, then she crawls over to me, “Pull up your khakis, let me see.” I roll them up to see nothing, not a bruise or even scratch. “Wow, that's interesting. We're doing magic today then” “Aww man, can we do that tomorrow?” “No.” “Why?” “I've never seen anybody so stubborn about learning magic before.” “I just want to go to sleep, it's almost ten by now, and it's the coldest night of the year.” “Gosh, what's the temperature supposed to be?” “I think five degrees?” “Oh brother. This is going to be interesting” She mumbles “Why?” “Well, my fire isn't going to keep us both warm enough so…” She hesitates “We, well, if we want to stay warm, then we kinda, have to, sleep together…” Elicia cringes My mind is already swirling with ideas, and imagine if I learned magic! That would make this situation a lot more interesting… but don't interfere Tenral, remember, what if she already has a love? I lay down by the fire, and I tell him to lay by me. Tenral actually hesitates in doing so. I guide his hand to be over my side and to the small of my back, and to my surprise, he is letting me touch him, even though I gave him a pretty bad cut. I then wrapped my left arm around him and placed my hand by his shoulder blade. “So, what is it with your dad?” I ask, seriously wanting an explanation. “Oh, yeah. I'm sorry, just I didn't really carry out the ‘family traditions’ sort of speak.” “What do you mean?” “Well, every son through my dad's side of the family has always been pretty buff. Then, I would do sports, and go to the gym and do what my dad told me to do, but I never got muscular like my dad and his dad before him. I know it sounds like a strange thing, but that's how our family was. Then my puniness got in the way, and- I guess you get it.” “I think you're fine,” I say, he seems very self conscious, which is a unique trait for a teen in this region of the map. “Oh really?” He smiles, “ Elicia, I have a question that has been in my mind for a bit, what is imprinted on you nice knife you cut me with?” “A T and an E, for Tylan and Etricia, remember? I stole it from them before I escaped.” I admit “They took all our weapons when they caught us, so I stole this knife. I can work with it, that's all I need” “Umm, how do I say this, but do have a love? I don't have one, most likely because of my friend who sets me up on blind dates.” I blush, “Well, I don't have one, but I've also never had a situation like yours!”
