 A man, out in his field, came across an injured bird. Sorrow ached in the man's heart as the bird tried uselessly to flap it wings in fear. Humanity can be cruel to so called lesser creatures, so fear is ingrained into the instincts of these animals. The man knew this, and with patience, and compasion, he caught the bird to bring home. 

 At first developing a trust with the bird was slow. It would not take food from him and struggled while the man applied medical attention. It took a day or two, but soon it fed, and the fear inside the bird had seemed to diminish. It even began to seem chipper when the man visited its makeshift cage. Only after a week, the bird had fully healed. 

 The man picked the day he would release it back out to the sky, hopefully, ready to fly. On that day, he took the bird into his hands, with no fuss, and walked outside. The man smiled looking upon the sky. He thought that a caged bird could not ask for a better day to fly. He lifted the bird up and above his head, loosen his grip on the bird and motion his arms to toss. The bird took to the signal, spread its wings, and flew upwards, higher and higher into the sky. The man took pride in the fact that his actions had meaning to this bird. Sure, he could not save them all. But this one would live on knowing parts of humanity can be kind. 

 As the man looked away from the bird to make his way back in the house. He started hearing a whistling noise. He looked back up at the direction of the bird, yet saw something else fall from the sky. Watching it plummet down, he realized what it was. In the next instance, a massive explosion occurred. All life in the radius of 3km to 8km was wiped out instantaneously, 
making everything meaningless.
