Katherine walked confidently out of her boyfriends house and walked down the driveway, towards the main road. It had been such a beautiful day, she decided to walk back to her house, which was roughly 3 miles away from where her boyfriend lived. The sun shone brightly in the sky and cast down rays of heat that made her feel like this year was going to be her year. Her boyfriends house lay just off the main road, in the middle of the countryside. To anyone else but her, they would say he lived in the middle of nowhere. She had been so caught up in thinking about other things that she remembered she always listened to music as she walked. She had been so enfatuated by the sun and the future that she forgot that she should have been listening to music and texting her boyfriend to say thank you for a great night. She had walked this way many times before and left the car at home, if it was a nice day outside. She cursed as she couldn't find her phone. She must have left it in her boyfriends house! She thought of herself as so stupid for forgetting her phone. There is a first time for everything! She had made it about half way to her house. She decided to walk back to her boyfriends to collect her phone. It wasn't as if she could just stop a random person on the street and use their phone; there was no one else around. This wasn't the city after all. Annoyed at herself and the situation she angrily turned around and stomped back to her boyfriends house. It was about 500 yards into her jouney back that she was approached by a pick-up truck. There was a hood over the back of it, hiding whatever was inside. The owner pulled in front of her, put on his hazard lights and asked did she want a lift. There was nothing exactly 'wrong' with this person. He had a thick country accent, a red shirt and a hat. He had a rough beard and automatically she thought he must be in his 50s, a good thirty years older than her. She declined the lift but asked could she use his phone, to contact her boyfriend. 'Sure you can little lady', he said with a smile. 'You just get in the truck here and we'll sort you out no problem darlin'. She made a 'hmmmmm' sound with her voice and questioned in her head why he was so polite with his pet names for her. 'Cmon darlin, I ain't gonna bite ya', he said. 'Okaaaaay', she muttered, a little warey. She approached the car door and opened it. The driver reached into his shirt pocket and pulled out a very old phone. It must have been 10 years old, at this stage. 'C'mon now baby girl, don't be shy', he says. 'Come up in here and sit next to me'. 'Emmmmm can I just use your phone?' She says, as she reaches over to get it, without sitting in the car. He bats her hand away and pats the seat next to him. 'Only if you sit down, missy, you're making me nervous'. She decided that this guy was just too weird to play stupid games with. She closes the door and just walks away briskly, towards her boyfriends house. Suddenly, the brakes scream backwards as the tyres hiss along the tracks. He wasn't going to leave her alone. 'Hey missy, don't you wanna use my phone?'. He picks the phone out of his pocket and throws it to her, through the open window.
