Today the whole world is celebrating INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY. Woman such a beautiful creation of the god. Imagining life without a woman is quite hard. She is a daughter, she is a mother, she is a sister , she is a wife. She is really a blessing in our life. All the great creatures of this world are born from the womb of a woman. A woman is a symbol of love, strength, beauty & care. Despite all these things, everyday we used to interact with some pathetic criminal activities against women but today I'm going to share a powerful example of women empowerment. "She saved her family from starvation and death by embracing her late husband's profession. In the process she broke gender stereotypes to become India's first female barber. " these few lines from a news website has made my day. There are so many women in our country who are breaking gender stereotypes by their strong determination & endless efforts. Shantabai from Hasursasgiri village in Kolhapur district of Maharashtra who got married at twelve years old was lead a quiet simple life with her family but when life threw her a challenge she took it & enter a male dominated world to feed her four hungry daughters. Her husband was a barber but in 1984 he died out of a heart attack. Then she started working as a farm labour. She would receive 5o paisa at the end of the day for her bone breaking efforts but this amount is not enough to feed her four hungry daughters. Some days she managed to get two meals for her family but on other days there was nothing. Then one day finally she decided to suicide along with her four daughters but at that time the sabhapati of that village Haribhau suggest her to take up her husband's profession and he himself became Shantabai's 1st customer. During the starting days, the villagers mocked her but she was completely committed. She used to walk 4 to 5 kilometres per day in search of more customers. Hard work never goes in vain. Soon , the residents of her neighbour villages there where no barbers became her customer. Shantabai married off all her daughters without taking financial help from anyone. According to her - "i had only two choices. Either to kill my daughters and myself and give up on life altogether or to hold the ustra that my husband left behind and struggle. I decided to choose the latter one." She also says that - "this profession has given life to me and my kids. Until i can see with my eyes and hold the ustra with my hands, I will carry on this job." I share it with you all because I want to say you all that you will find a lots of challenges a lots of problems in your life. But don't be a looser don't try to run away from these circumstances. Face the difficulties, fight with them not for others but for your own existence & defate them like a warrior. I adore such persons like Haribhau who motivated Shantabai in her worst situation. I remember few lines by Mary Kom mam & it goes like "Don't let anyone tell you that you are weak because you are a woman." On this women's day, a huge salute goes to the real life power woman the great warrior who defeat every negative situation with her courage. Shantabai is an inspiration to all indeed.
