As the waitress poured the coffee she looked over to me, "Why are you so alone tonight?" Her accent was rich with Russian, "Where are all your friends?" Though breaking me from a trance I looked over to her and smiled. "I really don't have any." I replied. The waitress didn't seem to want to press any further, so she nodded her head and walked away to other costumers. As she greeted the other costumers I watched. I've always been intrigued by how people treat others based on looks or when no one is looking, like masks, if you will. Everybody's mask is different. Take the bully from your class for example. Why is it that he is that way? Well first reason that most people will tell you is that he's mistreated at home so he takes his frustration and anger out on the people who possibly can't stand up to him. At home he can't stand up to the people that mistreat him. So he puts on a hypothetical mask to protect how he naturally feels. It's not any different then from almost every human being on this planet. I watch as the waitress laughs at the jokes the costumers are cracking. Laughing as if she actually means it. The thought almost makes me want to start laughing. I look back to my coffee and sigh, "Damn... She forgot the creamer." I said quietly to myself. There are many masks that one person alone can wear. There's the mask for when you're at your job, with your parents, out in public, or with that person you're trying to impress. The amount of things people try to cover just amazes me. I then start to gather my things and grab the bill, leaving the coffee untouched. As I approach the counter the waitress notices me and begins to make her way over. As she grabs my check from me she looks over to see the coffee still steaming, "Did you not like your coffee?" She asked. I handed her some money, "I loved it." I said smiling. I then turned to walk out the door. Leaving the confused waitress behind with the still untouched coffee.
